    Big 5 Yugo M24/47

So... big 5 has these for 189.99 and I just got a 10% off coupon from Big 5. Is this a good deal assuming I can find one in decent condition? Or do you think that it's overly expensive and I can probably find one for cheaper/better from a local calgunner? Obviously the dros + 10 day wait period sucks....

Side thoughts- Accuracy on these? The cheap ammo is looking nice.

    Thanks!

they're basically German 98ks as they were made by the Yugoslavs on German machines so they are comparable in accuracy to the 98k.

that's not a bad price for a good conditioned one.

the surplus 8mm Mauser ammo is still pretty easy to find.

My Big 5 had a nice one. If I wasn't broke I'd of bought it.

        No no no!

        You're thinking of M48's.

M24/47's were initially made by Belgium (Fabrique National), and then by the Yugoslav's by their own machinery in the 1920's through 1941.

They are most certainly NOT K98's or even similar- they (24/47's) are an intermediate length action hence- most parts are not even interchangable. Apples to oranges there...

I guess you could say that comparable to K98's accuracy-wise though...

Actually, that factoid is a bit of Mitchell's Mausers marketing they used when they tried to sell their Yugo Mausers as being "the same as the K98k, made by free people using German machines", blah blah. The Yugo M24 was actually based on the Belgian FN M1924. They were made before World War II using machinery from Belgium, not Germany. They have an intermediate-length action that is different from that of the K98k http://www.hoosiergunworks.com/catal...reference.html

            Edit to add:

The M48 also has the intermediate length action. While the Serbians\Yugoslavs also reworked captured German K98k's, the M48s are not K98k clones made "on German machinery" as Mitchell's claimed in their ads. That's just Mitchell's marketing hype.

            Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

Soo... Get the Big 5 Yugo or not? I have the money and am looking for a C&R... it has cheap ammo but I need to make sure it's a good price and i'm not better off getting it from another member.

For the price you mentioned- it's a decent deal. They don't show up for sale as often as they used to on the secondary market...

Especially considering the condition the Big 5 ones are in. I believe they were sarco (or samco?) imports; many of them are in practically new shape.

I say go for it (if you can afford it). They are excellent, well-built rifles.

It's either that or waiting for one to show up on the trader (which hasn't happened for quite a while).

I had a Yugo 24/47. It was in real nice condition, better then either of my K98s. I think the price is about right if it's in good condition.... I paid $200 for mine.

I sincerly doubt you will find a much lower price for a decent example of that rifle.

They always have in the past and I asked the GM yesterday. But not all stores have the same sales either.
