Now what sort of goodies do I need to get to pass the time while I wait for my 10 days to be over?

The nice thing about an SKS is that they're not picky about ammo quality.
I've put a few thousand rounds of Wolf through my 1954 Tula and never once have I had a problem other than the usual "Dammit I'm out of ammo again" problem.
Ammoman has Wolf on sale right now for $219/1000 delivered. Your choice of HP or FMJ
Something you may want to look at are replacement stocks. The SKS has a rather short stock on it that I found a bit uncomfortable shooting. I replaced mine with a black Monte Carlo and it's a lot nicer, not to mention sweeter looking (In my opinion)Last edited by PhantomII; 06-13-2010, 4:53 AM.Evil Roy SladeComment

Just buy lots of stripper clips. I prefer the chinese-made clips which has a shiny metal finish. These make it a breeze to load. The parkerized yugo clips make hard work of loading as the park finish seems to add more friction.

Sometimes Yugo's have trouble with the first round feeding if it is a hollow point. (just the first round) When I buy ammo I get FMJ so as to not have this problem. I also load my stripper clips with the first and last round FMJ and the rest HP. Not all of them, but I have heard from a few others and mine has the same problem.
Also, clean the gas tube with everything else if you have corrosive ammo.Comment

Leave it as is and get ammo for it. You can use a butt pad from a 59/66 to add some length or you can get a slip on butt cover. ive done all the different stocks that are available for SKS and ended up going back to the original stockComment

Get some 922r compliance parts if you hadn't already.
On a Yugo you need 5, 4 if you already had the muzzle launcher removed which you have to do in California.
Magazines count for 2 parts, a gas piston is one part, stock and handguard account for two. There's a set of trigger parts available but they're expensive.

I dont know about this. Of course, you remove the Muzzle launcher. (it is probably already off) Other than that, dont change anything! The aftermarket stuff is not as cool as the original stuff, so leave it original. Of course, that is just my opinion, but most guys will tell you to not "bubba" it out.Comment

My Yugo has gotten a Kivaari trigger job with wolff springs Grenade launcher replaced with a muzzle brake which was turned down on a lathe and soldered on. I also would like to get a Murray's firing pin spring job, but not really necessary. A peep sight would be nice. Mojo, Williams, or Techsight. Since the Yugo is a real gray area, I've been thinking of going the whole 922r route and adding more american-made parts.Comment
