Yesterday I ran into one of those bargins you just can't pass up. I picked up a Russian TT33 Tok which was a rusty basket case. I tried to clean but the finish was gone and a lot of pitting on the outside. I media blasted it and found Russia 7.62X25 on the slide, the grips had the usual star with CCCP lettering. I'm assuming this is an original Russian Tok. After media blasting I Duracoated and baked it. It went together easily and I shot about 50 rounds through it tonight. Great shooting pistol and not bad groupings at 25 yards.
The second part of this deal was what looks like on the surface to be a very sweet SKS. Very few dings in the stock. Nothing over a pinhead. I thought the stock was varnished, but second look it may be just oil rubbed. What was normal? There is no wear of any great degree on the blued surfaces. All metal work and the stock are stamped with the same number, MC 1271. I have not had it apart yet, but will tomorrow and clean some minor rust. On top of the receiver is the star and below that is 1951r. I'm assuming the year? Is the r for Russia? What does the MC stand for?
I bought both for less than $100.00. I'm not sure how the pictures will look, but I've uploaded a few.
