I proceeded to shoot a 1 inch group at 100 meters with it. I haven't even clean the gun by then.

I did get to thoroughly go through the rifle before I bought it or maybe I got lucky.
1" group? That is excellent...beyond excellent. Did it happen to have a NM or LMR barrel or are you just and great shot in general?

Here's the rifle as purchased, and the parts sitting in evaporust (the cuffs are not part of the rifle).

Interesting I thought about buying one but to have a M14 Magazine conversion done and change to a 308 barrel. If they fall in price more I may just buy one. Ill buy from CMP for a normal Garand.

        Once A Marine-

Could you please post some after pics, and how good the Evaporust works.

I don't have any good before pics. The shot above doesn't really show the pitting (in the usual stock areas, and in areas on the barrel), nor the heavy rust areas (rear sight, inside the receiver, barrel, spring recess on the op rod, etc).

I can categorically say that the Evapo-rust is an outstanding product. After soaking and re-soaking all the metal parts for most of the day (about 14 hours for the longest parts, 10 for the shortest), 99% of the rust is gone. The rear sight had a really bad spot, but I'll do another cleaning once I get some inspection tools in this coming week. The Evapo-rust also ate a bunch of the crud out of the bore - the first patch through after removal from my makeshift tank actually pushed goo out of the muzzle before the patch came through. First time was heavy with rust, second and third times was mostly carbon build up. The bore has that "fuzzy" look as if it wasn't cleaned after firing corrosive rounds, but at least it's much cleaner than a day ago!

The Garand is new to me - I couldn't tell you what should be normal or not. As I worked through the cleaning with an assembly/disassembly book, I noticed that there probably is more pitting than there should be, but all the parts and wear areas look serviceable. I'd probably say it's a field grade, according to the CMP standards. It will be interesting to see how it gauges out this week. Then I'll figure out what I'm going to do with it. The receiver S/N is under 3 million, but I might just part with it as I don't know how much effort I really want to put into it.

That not enough people know about.
              My sentiments exactly.
              I'm getting a S&W 1917 ready to dip.
