    M1 Garand: $429

    Is this a good price?

With shipping and FFL (I never got my C&R license), it's a little over $500.

It says "out of stock". Big Five sporting goods can match that price - the quality is horrendous and these are usually Korean returns.

Buy from the CMP (www.thecmp.org) or private party. Only way to get a good Garand. Wait is still 6-9 months through CMP.

Actually, my Field grade arrived almost exactly four weeks after CMP received my order so they are catching up.

And stay the heck away from the SOG / Century imported Garands. Reports are they came from a Central American country that didn't take care of them.

Wow good price. Should've got that a long time ago.

I have what appears to be Century import M1 Garand - part numbers (as one would expect) range from mid 40s through post war, post war stock, post war barrel. Condition is pretty nasty - had all the metal soaking in evaporust for hours, and some of it is still soaking. All sorts of nasty junk came out of the bore on the first patch

Should have done my homework first.

yeah, I just checked it, but if it's a junk then although is cheap, we ended up losing money

What do you want to see?

Here's the rifle as purchased, and the parts sitting in evaporust (the cuffs are not part of the rifle).

Not even close. The turn-around time from the CMP is 1-2 months right now.

                        I got a Springfield Armory M1, 98,000 serial # for $495, and it didn't take no 6-9 months.

I purchased an M1 Garand from Turners that was a Korean buy back for $249. This was over 10-12 years ago. When I get to the range a guy next to me sees Korean writing on the stock. He goes on and on about how I got screwed, how the barrels are all shot out, etc.....

I proceeded to shoot a 1 inch group at 100 meters with it. I haven't even clean the gun by then.

I did get to thoroughly go through the rifle before I bought it or maybe I got lucky.

Current CMP times are about 30-40 days. I've purchsed 2 Service Grade M1 Garands and 2 SG M1 Carbines in the last 3 months - not including 600+ rounds of 30-06 ammo set to arrive tomorrow.

Go with CMP. You will not be disapponted.
