Thanks. Owning these things, taking them apart, fixing them up, shooting them, reloading for them, owning and reading books about them, reading stuff on forums, talking to guys at gun shows, etc. There is a lot of good information in books and on the Internet regarding history, and for the practical side of things (removing cosmo and rust, refinishing wood, etc.) I just learned by doing. For example, I took a new CMP birch Garand stock set and refinished it.

But there are a lot of guys who know more than me that I learn from, and we are lucky to have forums like these so we can all share information.

I thought long and hard about ordering a collector or special grade and frankly it boiled down to me wanting a shooter rather than a safe queen. So for about the same money I ordered my first SA in service grade and another IBM carbine racker.

Now the hard part ............WAITING

Don't worry, it comes faster than you think. And, some of the Garands showing up are just beautiful... Good time to get one.
