I don't know of any reproduction M16s for sale. M16s are selective fire. While the military selective fire M16 and the civilian semi-auto AR-15 share many parts, the AR-15 is not a reproduction M16, it is a separate civilian model of the AR platform. A Colt AR-15 is a genuine AR-15, not a reproduction M16.

Yes, I would agree with you that because it is semi-auto only it is not an accurate reproduction of a Browning Automatic Rifle. Yet, that is the way it is marketed. There was no real BAR that was semi-auto only. It would be more accurate to call it a BSR (Browning Semiautomatic Rifle), in the same way that we call an AR-15 an AR-15, not a "M16" or "reproduction M16".
Of course you don't, because an AR-15 is not a M16 or even a reproduction M16. They look the same, and share many parts, but they are fundamentally different. Same thing with a real BAR and a BSR.
We are always making the point to anti-gunners that AR-15s are not "assault rifles" or "M16s" because they aren't selective fire. Same thing with semi-auto AKs vs. real AK-47s. I think $3800 for the rifle in question, no matter what it is called, is too expensive for what it is. That's my opinion, no one has to agree with me. It doesn't have any collector value, so its value is as a shooter. As a shooter, functionally, it is a $3800 19 lb. Garand that takes a 20-round magazine but doesn't make a "ping" sound when empty.
I could get a Garand from the CMP that granted holds 8 rounds instead of 20, but that shoots the same round, weighs half as much, is just as accurate, makes a "ping" sound, has some collector value, and still have around $3200 in my pocket. Or, I could get two M1Ds that have real collector value and still have money left over. Or, I could get a collector-quality M1 Garand from Scott Duff and still have money left over. Or, I could get an original M1A1 paratrooper carbine and an original collector-quality regular M1 Carbine for less than $3800. Or, a real M1903A4, with change leftover. Or a really nice, original M1911 and a shooter-grade M1911A1 to go with it.
Beyond USGI arms, for $3800 or less there are original collector-quality K98k's, Lugers, G/K43s, Arisaka Enfield and Mosin sniper rifles, etc. etc., the list goes on and on. All of them the real deal with real history and real collector value.
But, that's just me. To each his own as they say.

I think there are some out there
that have the above mentioned (in some cases several copies) and they are looking for something new and fresh to play with and still feel like they fit into a certain genre (WW2). If one already has a half dozen Garands or carbines it would be understandable if they wanted a 1918A3 instead of more Garands or Carbines. A big portion of it is the wow factor of having something that few have. There are millions of Garands and Carbines but the BARs (both FA and SA) are only in the thousands (Thanks Clinton).

And in my opinion those who have one of those reproductions rifles don't have a real BAR (Browning Automatic Rifle), just as someone with an AR-15 doesn't have a "M16", and someone with a Cobra kitcar doesn't have a real Shelby Cobra.
For me personally it is having something that is a real deal piece of history. For some others (not everyone who buys one of those repros) it's about impressing other people (the "wow" factor) with something that looks uncommon, even if it isn't "real". Clearly there are a lot of people happy to pay that much money for one of those repros, and that's fine. As I said, to each his own.
