I want to move to Montana, only thing keeping me in the Peoples Republic of CA is my parents are getting up in age and I'm the only child, so someone has to stick around to help out.

well, if being able to put a belt in your own 50cal and being able to load 30rd banana clips into ak47s is that high on your list of things you need to be able to do in life to feel like you're living in a place that's yours, well, sadly, this state is no longer the place for you.
as much as the gun laws here are eye-rolling, i'm happy to live in CA over any other state in the Union that i've ever come to know. I've lived in CA, IL, AZ, and spent an awful lot of time in CO and OH, and i gotta tell ya, as much as everyone of those states is "gunfriendlier", i'll totally deal with the bs here to have access to CA's job market.
6figures is not hard here. its virtually impossible anywhere east of here, west of the mississippi. when i got out of Gradschool, i job hunted all over the place, and there was just no comparison, anywhere, period, unless you went to NY, which is just as f'd gunwise as CA, just with bad weather!
even though none of its goign to be a problem for me in a month, i'd still rather live here and have access to CA's job market than live in a state with more libertarian gunlaws and nothing over $60k anywhere...

And you make valid points, for me though I'm just sick of CA, it has to do more with the direction the state is going more than being able to have a hi-cap magazine or whatever else. Sure to have the cool toys would be nice. Like you I think CA is a great place to live, but in all honesty I'm tired of all the liberal politicians ruining it for everyone, my opinion is they should all move onto an island in the middle of the Pacific where they can have their Eutopia and leave us out of it. Some of their intentions are well placed, but a vast majority are not, and I guess this attitude also comes from being in San Francisco for 38yrs and seeing how the city has turned to crap.
I can go on, but I won't, you get the idea.

Surrender your C&R and check CO law to see if you can write up a storage contract for your dad to "store" your firearms. Once you surrender your C&R you and your books are no longer subject to inspection. You can get a new C&R when you move back to the states.

Well I will miss you Glennsche. It is always refreshing to have someone here who has an accurate knowledge of European gun ownership laws, whenever there are those who like to bash/ accuse Europeans for giving up their gun rights.

at the cost of their freedom, they're forced conscripts to the state with heavy restrictions on ammo ownership and subject to a well known police state. They don't have the 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th amendments

Seems to me that one solution would be to have your Dad get a C&R. You could then transfer the rifles to him and have him buy any C&R stuff you want while you are gone. When you come back and get your new C&R everything can transfer back to you.
