i'm immigrating... cant take em with

    hey lads,

so i'm emigrating to the country of origin of my fave guns in my collection, to Switzerland. Got a sweet job at a bank. I'm leaving at the end of january. I could potentially at some point take em with, or some of em with, but not all of em and not even thinking about it right away.

instead, i've decided to unload the collection/ammo/safe onto my dad, who's an NRA certified pistol instructor and likes evil black guns and pistols, exactly what i have none of, so with me storing my collection of 11 C&R and 1 vz58 at his house, he should be one of the better armed folks in the greater denver area.

my question for you gents is, before i finalize this and make it happen:

    a) is there any legal stuff i need to worry about here about storing with him?
    b) if i change my C&R license address to his, can i still buy and have sent to his house? (assuming i can pay with cc, since i obviously cant send USPS money orders from switzerland)
    c) anything else i shoudl look into about this plan, is there any huge problem with any of this?

would love to hear your collective opinions on this. and all the stuff in my sig is what i'm handing over, if you want to buy anything, i might be interested if its not some lowball bs offer.

    thanks!

I see you have a K98, going to part with that or keep it?

BTW, congrats on your new job.

Congratulations and enjoy! I visited Switzerland in the 1970s and it is a very beautiful and civilized country. They have a strong firearms tradition http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_pol...in_Switzerland

Members of the militia are required to practice with the "deadly assault rifles" that they keep in their homes, and freely walk around with them going to and from the range. Talk about "open carry", imagine this scene in San Francisco, Berkeley, or Santa Monica!

      Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

But, the SIG in the pic was given to the guy carrying it by his government for free.

Speaking of open carry, when I went to AZ and opened carry my pistol, some people were just freaked. Was funny at one gas station these young guys in a pick up come ripping up and playing loud music, I come walking out with my piece in my holster and they lowered the music really fast and chilled out, one even said 'oh **** he's got a gun', was comical, guess they weren't locals to the state.

Congrats on the new job!! So does this mean we can expect to see a bunch of K-31 diopter sights shipped directly from Switzerland on the classifieds?

If you store your guns at his place in Colorado in a locked safe that he doesn't know the combination to then you would be covered for sure. If you become a Colorado resident before moving to Switzerland then you could just transfer the guns to your dad without going through an FFL and then the guns wouldn't have to stay locked up in your safe.

You would still need to log any acquisitions into your bound book and be available for BATFE inspections of your collection, so maintaining your FFL while you live in Switzerland doesn't seem like a viable option.

I'm no lawyer but I think you might be walking a thin line.

as for b) I believe the C&R license requires a state of residence. If you emmigrant, you no longer have a state of residence; and conducting C&R transactions via remote would appear a violation... Plus delivery would be to a person whose name is not on the license. You really need to spend a few bucks and at a minimum do a phone consult with an attorney familiar with firearms law. A few bucks for advice can prevent a lot of bucks later should you run afoul of the law.

for c) I make the assumption you are a CA resident since this a a CA forum. How do you propose to make interstate transfer to your dad who resides in another state? Does he not need an appropriate FFL to receive them?

As for taking firearms to Switzerland... you may find that is the export of arms and may require a license to export.

I wish you the best in your move; keep an eye on my money while you are there. In an ideal world, you should be able to move, tranfer, sell, your personal property as you wish.
