    m1 garand purchase

I was going to build an AR next but what I really want first is a mil surp M1 GARAND. Where do you buy one? I see CMP sells them. I'm from sacramento and most of the orgs I see on the list are high school rotc programs.. I'm not high school age.

I think I found one club that's like a safety oriented club.

My understanding is I join the club, then I can order the rifle.

I know you need your 03 ffl to buy through the mail. Can I have a regular ffl receive the gun for me? without joining a club, are their other companies that are recommended for buying through?

I don't necessarily want to get my 03 ffl because can't the atf come in and inspect your stuff at your house? I don't have anything to hide, but I don't like losing my privacy because of HAVING to get 1 rifle.

Buy one from the CMP. Best deal out there, no 03ffl needed and they will ship it to your house, no FFL involved. Check out their sight. http://www.thecmp.org/

Check out this thread to see how easy ordering from the CMP can be.

I love my CMP Garand - especially the "ship it to your front door" part....

So I don't even need an 03FFL? That's SIIIIICK. I want one soooo bad. I'm new to classic guns, is it better to buy a shabby one and repair it yourself or would you need a lot of gunsmithing experience?

Would you guys recommend obtaining my 03 ffl? What about the BATFE just showing up? Does that happen? is it a big deal if they do?

It's better to just buy the one you want. Are you looking to collect or shoot? Usually the service grades from CMP seem to be a best fit for most people.

Yes, I've saved thousands in discounts for having it (Grafs, Brownells, Midway etc...) plus hundreds more on having rifles shipped to my door and going out of state and buying FTF. It's a easy painless procedure.

You're thinking of an 01FFL. With a 03FLL they can't just show up. They call in advance to inspect your book and you have an option of going to their office or having them come to your house. Many say it is best to go to their office to avoid any potential problems but either way nobody is just going to show up and walk in your house.

            Hope this helps

then go with CMP, I called them again today just to check up on my order, the lady I spoke with said the Carbine wait time is 25-40 days right now and the Garand is around 21-35 days because they're receiving a higher volume of orders due to Xmas and the fact that their Carbines are almost gone and the word is out about it.
!!WANT TO BUY and looking for shooter/beater/reenacting grade German Waffen proofed handguns from the WWII era. I just want shooters, Im not looking to spend oodles of money, I just want shootable examples to play with!!

!!!Also looking for a shooter/rack grade USGI M1 Carbine (Earlier the date the better)!!!

Leave the CMP alone. You are only slowing them down.

They called me today because my carbine choice was sold out. Dang. Time to figure out what to substitute.

i think it takes months to get signed up with CMP. after you place your order, it takes a little while before you get your rifle. if you are not in a hurry, CMP is the way to go.

My first rifle from CMP was in my hands 3 weeks after they received my order. There was a backlog right after Obama was elected, and the country went crazy buying rifles and ammo, but they are now back to normal. I just sent in two orders for carbines, one on 11-30-09 and one on 12-07-09. The first one is getting ready to ship and the second one has just gone open and will probably ship next week.

you might want to call customer service, have your tracking numbers reported the packages as delivered?
