    Name That C & R

A little exercise for the panel of experts -

Name this American made C & R rifle:

Remington Model 141. It could be a 14 or a 14 1/2. But I can't tell that without seeing the rest of the gun.

Remington Model 141 "Gamemaster" It was 1935 replacement for the Model 14. The 141 came in .30, .32, and .35. And a barrel length of 18in. and 24in. I believe what the difference in apperance is that on the 141 at the end of the bottom barrel spiral is connected to the top rifle barrel. The 14 was not. But like "Monkeyboy" was saying is that if we could see the rest of the gun we could tell much better. But, I think I'm correct. Am I? This is fun.

        Don't think it could be a 14 1/2. If I'm not mistaken the 14 1/2 and 14 1/2R didn't have the spiral magazine tube; it wasn't needed for the flat-nosed .44-40 and .38-40.

But could it be a 14R? WAS there a 141R? (Never seen one).

This IS fun! (Always wanted a 14R in .25 Rem, especially now that they are making a case that can be altered to .25 Rem. Can YOU name that case?).

          You guys are good.

It is a Remington 141. It does not have the Gamemaster marking. It is one of the transition rifles made up from Model 14 barrels. Remington made about 4000 Model 141's using the left over 22 inch Model 14 barrels. Then in March 1936 they came out with the 24 inch barrel and stamped them Gamemaster.

This one is chambered in .32 Remington. Here's a couple more photos.

Haven't been able to stump the panel yet.

I have one of those in .35 Remington. It is a fun, and very handy rifle. Light weight, fast handling, accurate. And a good enough thump to whack deer on the woods. I am hoping to try it out on pigs next summer in Texas.

I'm going to put this one in the for sale forum now.

I'll see if I have anything else that wouldn't be too easy.

I killed my first deer with one like it of my dad's that is in 30 Remington. It went for many years being loaned from one friend to another. Everyone shot it once and killed there deer. These are wonderful quality showing the highest art of the machinists that built them. They are under valued on the market. Much finer quality than any Winchester M94 ever built.

That case would be the 30 Remington that is being used again. These rifles were not made in 44-40 or 38-40, They came in the cartridges listed earlier, The 30 Remington is identical to a 30-30 but rimless. These rifles all used Rimless cartridges. They all had spiral mag tubes.

You've named my avatar correctly as well. I can't remember what the serial number is but since you got everything else correct, I imagine you have the serial number range correct also. It is an original GI bringback Carbine from the Pacific.

                              None are more precious.

I've got an M1 30 that came home with a GI and sat in his closet till he passed away .I got it from his grandson who said his grandfather had "it in some famous battle in the winter where some city got surrounded". Whenever I hold this M1 ,I wear white gloves.
