Does your debit card have a Visa or other credit card company logo on the front, or is it just a plain old debit card?

The CMP accepts orders for rifles only through the mail or in person at the stores, not by phone. Ammo and other items (books, tools, etc.) can be ordered through their estore https://estore.odcmp.com/Store/login/login.aspx , by phone, or by fax.

Personally, I would not use a debit card for transactions that you don't do in person (where the card never leaves your possession). With a credit card you are protected against fraud above a certain amount. With a debit card number someone could possibly clean out your bank account and I don't think you have the same protection as you would with a credit card. The CMP accepts several types of payment:

I use a credit card with the CMP, but in your case I would use a money order. When I buy guns on Gunbroker I use money orders that cost 25 cents, unless the seller specifically requests a USPS money order. Those cost $1.10-1.50.

Money orders are sold at many places including your local post office, Wal-Mart, and 7-11. I get most of mine from my local WinCo Foods supermarket (sold at the customer service desk). You usually have to pay for a money order with cash.

yes, western union or USPS. Just go there with cash and ask for a MO in a specific amount. You'll give the clerk the money (plus some for the MO fee) and they'll give you a MO in that amount. send the MO to CMP along with your orderr paperwork.

just follow the directions on the order form, it isn't that hard.

Don't sweat it. Just follow the instructions on the order form the best you can. If you make a mistake, they will contact you and help you straighten it out. Their customer service is the best.

So another thing i was curious about was your guys' opinions on whether I should get 1 carbine and 1 Garand or 2 carbines because they're running out, the ones im looking at for the carbine are: Quality Hardare, National Postal Meter, and Winchester. ah, choices choices

It depends on how quickly you could save up for a Garand if you got two carbines. The carbines are almost gone, but the Garands coming on line now are exceptionally nice Greek Air Force returns, so you don't want to miss out on those either. Get two carbines now if you will have enough money to get a Garand within the next say 3-4 months. Otherwise, get a carbine and a Garand now.

Any of those makers would be nice to have.

Winchester: second-highest number made so not rare, but Winchester name appeals to many, so people might pay more for a Winchester (and the CMP charges more). They also created the M1 Carbine design.

Quality HMC: fifth-highest number made so middle of the pack for rarity. Second-highest rated maker of carbines for initial quality by "War Baby!" author Larry Ruth. Quality HMC was the only maker to use the spring tube design receiver variation throughout production, so can be an interesting contrast if you get another carbine with the more common (no spring tube) design.

National Postal Meter: fourth-highest number made. Highest rated maker of carbines for initial quality according to Larry Ruth.

I have all of my stuff ready to go. Application filed out and notorized, joined the M1 Garand club, and even saved the money.

Unfortuately, I went to the range on Saturday thinking I could get the form filled out and they could not do it... So, I'm still stuck.

I've done hunter safety classed back in the day (no records, of course 30 + years ago...) and I consider myself a safety first kind of guy, but where can I get this last, and for me, the easiest part of the requirements filled?

I would sure hate to have to take another hunter safety class and not get my application in until it's completed...

Ok so I called CMP today and the girl I spoke to didnt sound like the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I called about 3 days ago and was previously told that because I am a life time Eagle Scout and have my card that all I have to do is send in a copy of my Order Form, Birth Certificate, SSN, and Eagle Scout Certification Card. Today the girl i spoke with (again not the brightest crayon in the box) me told me the only way they can allow it is if it has an expiration date on it or says "Life Time Member", it has neither. But by earning my Eagle Scout award I am a life time member, what do I do...Call back tomorrow and speak to someone else and put ATTN: that person on my order??
