well they say it is the luck of the draw and I did not draw too well, the stock looks like it was hit with a shotgun, whoever owned it I think put a hashmark for every kill, looks like 3 kills on one side and 5 on the other, the bezel is cracked, the forgaurd has been repaired, it is all SA and nothing matches except the bolt which looks pretty new with a green park and it is HRA.

I know you can not trust this but the bullet test shows a solid 3/16 of an inch and the bore dose not look bad but i will have to get on it. some surface rust under the wood but no pitting. depending on where you look finish is 50%-85%

I will post pics in a few hours once it is cleaned up

Someone advised me to completely disassemble the rear sight and make sure it didn't have rust on it. I did that and found *lots* of rust. So, you might consider it ...

OK I am a bit of a whinny bitch. the rifle is nice it feels as tight as my AR-10 when I push a patch through. everything is SA except the bolt. the rear sight is labeled NM I spent about 3 hours with steam and a scotch-bright pad (to smooth out the splinters) and the wood is very usable. I am actually rather fond of the battle bruises. the fire control group / hammer looks new. finish on the receiver is about 90% after a little scrubbing and copper removal, the barrel is bright and shiny, rifling is strong there is a little pitting on the barrel under the wood. over all if she shoots, then she is exactly what I wanted

I will find out tomorrow after work

the front sight is a little loose and I will probably replace it and the rear as the rear binds when I go much past the right of center

I looks like you got a fairly decent one. I'm just not a fan of the Greek "black" that they applied. I don't think that the Greeks really took care of these, since they were only being loaned to them. If you read the CMP forums, you'll hear some horror stories about their stocks.

the forgaurd is a bit loose, but other than that the wood is very sound, I would like to lighten it up. I am considering using paint thinner and carb cleaner to leach the stain out, or storing the wood and buying a new set. steem went a long way to raise the dents.

Yours looks pretty nice. My Greek FG had some tape on the stock (which was a PITA to remove), a small crack in the FG, gouges in the wood (especially on the lower side of the stock), and swallowed most of the bullet. I like your luck of the draw at least as much as I like mine.

Steaming the wood took out most of the dents. Stripping and applying BLO got a nice color. But I can't do anything about the MW. You should be able to get yours looking really nice with an investment of time on the wood.

First get the oil, grease, etc. out of the stock. Purple Power(any degreaser), CitriStripper paint remover, even a dish washer works great for this. Added bonus with dishwasher method, it helps lift dents.
Once degreased, get some crystaline wood bleach, I get mine at Lowes back in the paint dept. Oxalic acid. Mix with hot water. Brush on the stock, then rinse/hose off. Lightens and cleans stock. It will often make dark spots go away that the degrease wouldn 't touch.
When you say the front sight is loose, do you mean the sight itself or the gas cylinder? The sight can be tightened with an allen wrench. You can lightly peen the splines on the barrel to tighten up the gas cylinder.

I am going to do all that. and yes it is the gas cylinder. I am going to try the peen trick tonight. I will work on the stock next week. I do not want it perfect I rather like the battle bruises. there was a self proclaimed "Garand-nut" at the range today, he gave me a hand. I hit the 14X14 steel @ 200 yards with my 3rd round.

I found out that my sight base is a National Match and the windage nob is standard so now it is cross threaded and needs to be replaced ouch!

even with both my sights defective, here is my first bandoleer at 50 yards, 6 were factory 150's and 2 were 180's don't ask why that is just what was laying on the table. I am still getting used to the peep sight so much of the problem is me

Recommendation, don't use too much 180 gr ammo. Generally, it is recommended that nothing heavier than 165-175 gr, and nothing slower than IMR4320 powder.
