    Mosin Nagant Bolt Problem!!!

    Hi,

I soaked my bolt last night for 30 minutes and then oiled the internals a tiny bit. I just tried to put it back together but the cocking piece will not screw on to the firing pin. It just keeps turning and turning but going no where... I looked through the cocking piece in the light and it looks like a metal thread is chafed off a little... My camera can't focus to take a picture of it. I have been extremely careful every time I screw it in and take the pressure off of the spring.

    Any ideas?

    Push!

The spring is pretty hard and the thread is likely not catching. Mine was a pain to reassemble after I cleaned it out. Push hard and turn slowly methinks...

Well, I have put it together many times and it always is easy to go on but now it just won't do it.

The problem that I identified is that the metal thread got chafed off at the bottom and is literally hanging like a thread.

I pushed and turned and now it is stuck where that tiny piece was coming off.

Ok now imagine that the black thing in the middle is the metal thing hanging off of the thread. (it is most likely a piece of the thread)

          What NOW?

Have you tried to take the bolt apart again and then try to put it back together? Like others said you really have to push down. When I cleaned my bolt, I got pissed after 10 mins and gave it a rest. Took everything apart and tried again. It was hard but I was able to do it. I used a rag over my hand to help push it down even more.

Well it got stuck on there and then it was turning the firing pin with it. I will try again...

Is this your first time or one of the first times taking the bolt apart?

Lost count how many times I have done it.

Every other time it went on smooth as butter.

Haha and first time the bolt was like this? I was going to suggest a video on youtube that helped but since it is your 20th time I am sure you got it down.

The bolt has never been like this. I watched a video and read how to do it before I did it the first time.

sounds like you jacked up the threading. look at the firing pin, check the threads. Now look at the hole, check the threads, are any of them damaged?
Need Ammo Prices? Check the thread. If you have better prices and the link to the shop, let me know and I'll change things up. So far I only got pistol ammo~

I have always been careful with it... Like I literally let up slowly on it when I screw it on and everything.

Umm, I made a picture and said earlier that a metal piece of the thread is hanging off. How do I make this work?

Can you take a picture of it? That might help. I didn't mean to doubt your experience with the mosin before. Just didn't know since you didn't mention it.

I don't know how much of the threading is messed up, if it's just that thread then you can probably save it, but it's still risky. If it's only that strand of threading ruined, then cut your losses and remove the thread. Make sure the rest of the threading is okay before you screw it on or else you might end up ruining your firing pin threading too then you'll have two things to replace. Those threads are the only thing holding your firing pin in place, I would highly suggest you get a new cocking piece over just fixing it. Last thing you want is to fire a hot round and have the firing pin blast right into your eye. Of course that's highly unlikely, depending on how much threading is left, but why risk it when it's only a few dollars to get a new one. When it comes to explosions near my face, I try not to take risks.

                              Hope that helps bud~
