    No4 Mk1

Finally got my hands on my very first Enfield. I do not know much about Enfields, so please pitch in any knowledge or feedbacks. This one has a 5 groove barrel. I really like the trench art of a rose on the buttstock.

Welcome to the world of Enfields!

They are beautiful rifles and fun to shoot. You may find yourself chasing various versions and makers. Different Enfield pattern rifles were made by Great Britain, Australia, Canada, Pakistan and yes the United States.

It is difficult to read the electo-stencil in the pics, but it looks like a No 4 MK 1* made by the Royal Ordnance Factory of Fazakerley in Liverpool in Sept 1948 (9/48).

Just got a No 4 Mk 1 from a member here as well. Seems you did well.

Haha. Small world. Thank you for the kind words. What would be a proper bayonet for this? A No9?

Virtually all the surplus ammunition in this hemisphere has been exhausted so learn to reload unless you like paying around $30 a box for new cartridges.

                Looks like a nice one.

I might have a bayonet you can have.

I have one of those (allegedly) unissued No 4's that came in the wrap (I unwrapped it of course, haha!!).

IIRC, it also came with an unissued bayonet. I don't care about all the extra stuff that comes with milsurps and usually toss it.

If I can find it (and if it's correct for your rifle) it's yours.
You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.
                Come on...what harm??

Wow I feel humbled and I really appreciate it. I actually really like collecting accessories. If you do find it, I'll be happy to take it off your hands. Thanks again!

British rifles are a rich collecting field and somewhat addicting. One of the things that make them so much fun to collect is that the thrifty British kept reusing their old receivers and adapting them to the, then current, standards.

I have an Enfield that started life in 1903 as a CLLE MkI*, modified later and another (*) was added. In 1915 it was rebuilt in India into a No3 Mk1. I find this kind of nerdy historical stuff interesting and am always on the lookout for rifles that have a story to tell.

My modest little British Empire rifle collection.

OP, is the bayonet I'm using for a prop on this Last Ditch Arisaka the one you're looking for?

That'd be the correct bayonet, since mines a 1948 South African no4. That is exactly the one I've been on the look out for!

                            Cool deal.

It would normally have been in the trash by now, but it came in handy to prop rifles for pics, so I kept it around, haha!!

PM me a good shipping address. I should have it out this weekend.

With all these fine Enfields on display, I am surprised that mj1 hasn't dropped a couple of pics.
