Too greasy and dirty for those uses if you ask me

I am curious what third world warehouse these things came out of anyways. I would imagine same one as those atrocious M1 Carbines they've got.

I think the point is that those paying for these, if indeed they have actually sold any, do not remember those or know about the CMP.

I can picture a kid who just saw Gran Torino and didn't know any better buying one, but they don't have that kind of cash. Honestly, I just don't even know what use those things would be. They need to be reworked from the ground up - new parts, new bbls, new stocks, new parking. As is...

$800 plus tax and DROS is a buttload of money for a rusty receiver that may not even be worth re-building.

They are probably Greek rifles that were on loan, when the CMP had those, they were beaters. or some other crap *** country we lent them to and they just abused them and returned them, and now big 5 has them. 800 bucks...wow...I mean I love Garands, look at it like and old car you are going to buy and restore...the more we can save the better IMO!

Do the wait and get one from the CMP. It took 4 months for my Springfield service grade. Got it yesterday and it's a beauty. $617 shipped to my door. I'm going to get another as soon as I can.

Don't take it personally, people are just experssing their observations. The Garands that I have seen there almost appear to be un-shoot-able, and borderline unsafe. We are just trying to keep folks from making a thousand dollar mistake. Also the salesman reccomending anything other than good ol' M1 ball ammo is scary!

Yeah, they may even have cut receivers, who knows, its a shame for sure. The CMP is the way to go, and the cheapest. Lol, I got some Garands back in 2005 for $425 shipped to my door and 960 rounds of Lake City Mil surpM2 Ball 30.06 for about $221 shipped to my door, ahhh...those were the days.

I saw one at the Arden Way Big 5 in Sacramento yesterday. Must be CMP rejects. It was beat up. I have 9 that run circles around that one.

I checked out a Garand in the Tulare Big 5 today. 5.59 mil H&R, unknown barrel on it that gauged about 3(Remington 30-06 bullet stuck out about 1/8" - 3/16". Windage knob was "BMB", and the triggerguard was a milled "WRA". Stock was rough, but it appeared to be a post war Stained Birch Springfield. Stock was rough, but being oversized it could be fixed into a decent stock. Rear handgaurd had a crack in it. Bolt was locked back, so I could not tell what manufacture the bolt or the op rod was.
However, the biggest problem was a spot on the left side of the receiver, behind the clip latch, that had had something ground off. A spot about 3/4" x 3/4" that was ground down to bare metal, which means the reciever should be refinished.
Might make a decent shooter with some work...................okay, a bunch of work.

I think the 1st problem, is your shopping at Big5. I bought one gun from them, because it was on massive sale. When I went to pick it up 11 days later, I had to wait for them to call the guy who they had given my gun and info too! Mad was an understatement. What made it worse, was asking for the Manager, the guy who was helping me, said "Your looking at him!"

I went to a Big 5 in Long Beach the other day and saw one of the Garands they had there. The stock was BLACK...

...not dark brown, not "dirty", BLACK!!!

Plus, the different metal pieces were different colors. It was disgusting...

                      I wouldn't pay $300 for it...
