OP, you scored! That rack grade is in great shape. The wear makes it that much more desirable. I'd take that over the service grade I chose. It seems the 2nd and 3rd rounds are getting really nice field and rack grades."Show me a young conservative and I'll show you a man without a heart. Show me an old liberal and I'll show you a man without a brain." - Sir Winston Churchill
"I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue!" - Senator Barry GoldwaterComment

I'd rather have yours than the service grade complete Ithaca I received. Yours has original honest finish. Mine looked like it had been sand blasted in a shipyard prior to reparkerizing. I peddled it.Comment

It looks like a colt GHD stamp frame and colt slide 1911A1.
The colt 1911s made before 1944 had serialized slides matching the frame serial number. The serial number should be on the rear of the slide where the hammer hits the firing pin.
If you have the serial number, you can look up when it was made. A colt 1911 made in 1944 or later should not have a serialized slide.Comment

Thank you for the info. According to the serial number mine was made in 1945. I did pull the firing pin stop plate and no serial number under it.It looks like a colt GHD stamp frame and colt slide 1911A1.

I'm really happy with my rack grade and I do love the honest wear on it. I originally wanted service grade but most of the ones I saw posted over on CMP looked heavily parked and brand newish. I guess I'm glad that they made my choice easy only having rack available.
Seems like any grade is just the luck of the draw. I'm just happy to own a little piece of history.sigpicComment

They made the change in 1943. Early 43s had the number under the plate but late ones did not. Can't remember the actual cutoff SN.It looks like a colt GHD stamp frame and colt slide 1911A1.

I'm also not sure that is true with the pre A1 Colts.Comment

That's beautiful, congratulations. I took a service grade and it was a mixmaster.Comment
