    CMP Rack Grade 1911

Picked her up yesterday. Was originally going for Service or Field Grade but Rack was all that was available at the time of my call. Overall I'm quite happy with it and love the worn finish. Don't see any rebuild stamps on it.
Anything you guys can tell me about it would be much appreciated.

Apparently all the talks we had about getting a good used tarus or astra for less money
than just an ordinary old colt was for not. Tisk Tisk.

That’s because it was a trick. There’s no such thing as a “good” used Taurus or Astra.

Nice gun, OP! I have to admit I’m a little jealous!

Congratulations! That is in very nice shape for a Rack Grade. My understanding of the CMP grades is the rack grade is more likely to be in original condition, with service grades more likely to be arsenal rebuilds.

you can send the serial number to Colt, and may get a letter stating production date and shipment to Army date. If you're real lucky, you might find out it was shipped to fill a USMC shipment.

There should be a serial number hidden behind the firing pin stop

Can someone confirm that the size of serial number stamp used on the WWII Colt slide starting in 1941. Is it 1/16th of inch?

Finish-wise, it looks better than my service grade.

That looks better than some Field or Service Grades. I would have been thrilled to get that. Congrats!

I suggested to my son that he get in on round three of the CMP lottery. He replied that why should he, he'll get mine eventually. I can't fault his logic!
