On the cheap... I painted a Remington 870 that I got for free with VHT black satin Epoxy chassis paint. It comes in gloss, semi-gloss, satin, and flat black.

The barrel had outside surface rust. I took it apart, cleaned that up, went over it with a soft wire polishing brush, and painted it with the above. It's a beater gun, so I had no inclination to do any more for it than this, and I already had the paint for car projects. The original finish looked like satin black paint too.

12 years later and it has yet to chip, corrode, flake, or peel and it's impervious to gun cleaners and oils. Nor do I handle it with kid-gloves. I was thoroughly surprised by how well that paint has lasted.

If I were ever to repaint an FN-49, it would certainly be my first choice for the most accurate aesthetics.

If you're gonna paint it, give a look into these guys.

Stumbled onto them a while back, but have yet to give it a try. Looks like a good option to keep it more pure than ceracoat or others.

So the grips cover the holes on either side of the frame.

The CZ 82 isn't rare, obscure and 98% of them have chipped up paint. My first choice would be to find one with the paint in decent shape, the one I used to have was a unicorn, it had no chips or holster wear but I've noticed that in 2023, those seem to be impossible to find, every CZ 82 I've looked at over the past year or so that was for sale was pretty dinged and chipped. If that's all I can find, a beat up copy with a lot of paint flaking off, I may paint it or parkerize it because having the original paint chipping away off the frame and slide just looks ratty to me. I'd never re-paint or park a gun that has just genuine holster wear and character but I think it bugs me because the paint was crappy to begin with and it just flakes off on many of them, not really from hard use and wear, just because it's a crappy paint job and it makes the gun look like it was dug out of the ground.

We shall see, I am still looking for a clean one to buy, I'd rather not have to paint it or park it.
