    Argentine Hi Powers

I recently picked up two Argentine made Hi Powers - don't know much about them.

This one has no import mark. Came with the ambi thumb safety, I swapped out the hard plastic grips for checkered wood, put hammer flats into white. From what I've read these were made in the 1990's. I hadn't noticed the full sided slide until after bought.

This one is import marked - CAI when they were in St Albans.

I'm not sure of "about DOM".

Each is stamped with "FM Hi Power Industria Argentina" on the left side of the slide.

Nice, the top one is known as an FM-90 or M-90 by others. I have an FM-90 and love it. The "paint" on mine was coming off so I had it Creakoted in Blue Titanium. I like it, but I'm thinking about having it redone in Armorer's Black.

    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

      Nice pistols.

I have one marked FN license. It is a good shooter but with the usual heavy trigger pull.

Thanks for the info. I found articles on the FM90. The other one is still a bit of a mystery especially DOM. Funny thing is, the trigger pull on each is better than my 70's made BHP and later made MKIII.

My Star 9mm was also imported CAI but is very lightly stamped St Alb VT at bottom of trigger guard. Doesn’t say CAI. Untouched slide.
Definitely. I have a 30 Luger barrel and a Ceiner 22 conversion kit, will likely dedicate it to one of them.

I wish CAI were as delicate with the import mark on mine as they were on yours. They slapped it on the left side complete with St Albans, VT. Mr. Magoo could read it from across the room.

Argie FM Hi Powers are among the nicest of Hi Power clones---made under FN license and parts interchange with FN pistols. They also made a shorter barrel version called "The Detective" I believe, that I shot and it performed just fine, but the shorter barrel completely changed the feel of the pistol... I used to know a couple of guys (they're gone now) that had a couple of Argie P-35s and their guns functioned very well...
FM also made a licensed copy of the FAL .308 rifle that was very fine...

I think it doesn’t have the billboard because it was one of the few commercially imported Stars rather than a surplus police sample. Imported before the Spanish police turned theirs in. At a time when us Gringos didn’t want Spanish guns.
