most milsurps are in crazy prices these days. Junk mosins are 500-600 all over. Plenty of mediocre uninteresting rifles have doubled in the last four years. Looking at GB, there's 4 of these that actually sold for at/over 2K recently. But there's more down at the 1.3k range too.

OK, good chance that it was force matched at arsenal rebuild.
Is there any way to really know?
              What are the implications?
              Worth less?
              Still considered original?
              Not considered original?
              Could still be original?
Should we avoid all matching # mil sups?
I know that when the Russian capture k98's, p38's, etc. came in 10+ yrs ago, the matching # ones always sold for more $.

The arsenal would never force match by manufacturer part. They would refurbish/overhaul with parts on-hand.
Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

From piles of parts stacked like cord wood and 5 gallon buckets of small parts and assemblies.

It is easy to be critical of something you have not seen. This rifle is a 1944 build and unmolested.

Not being critical, just realistic. The majority of "correct" USGI M1 carbines on the commercial market in the late 50's and 60's are put together by surplus buyers of the era. Honest straight ones came from the DCM and through NRA sales. If they went through any ordnance maintenance service at all they would most likely be mixmasters.

Winchester M1 carbines on GunBroker go for that much. Rockolas go for about $3k. The prices are all over on GunBroker from every manufacturer and config but they always sell higher for what calguns says they're worth. GunBroker will be your best.

This one just sold for $2500
