OK, my rifle is a little outside the serial number range chart SVT-40 has put together but if I am reading the part in the OP correct, 48 (1948?) "Dated" rifles -----200878 204865 211889 30005 then my rifle would indeed be "erratic" with the stamped serial number, hypothetically speaking lol...

Here we go, my photo skills are amateur at best. Please bear with me...

      VKT 1944 serial # 66618
      The mark of the beast???

      IMG_1062.jpg
The rifle does shoot as good as it looks...

The stock disk is somewhat of a mystery. I was told the disk tells the tale that this rifle was issued as a small arms inventory item to a artillery unit. Sounds good but still not sure...

Yours is a standard 1944 dated VKT made M-39. This survey is for the "No Maker" M-39's which only display a date, or no date and no maker on their barrel shanks.

            Still a nice VKT though!

Very nice! and "PSV" marked too. The previous low 1967 SN was 300,100. I would guess the "No maker" 1967 dated rifles SN's started at 300,000 or 300,001

I agree that would be the start of the range.

I am no longer into collecting C&Rs. But, this thread brought up the memory of a question I asked Jarko (Finland resident) years ago over at Gunboards. I was able to find the question and his response. Some of you might find it of interest.

                        ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Were all barrel blanks used to assemble 1967-1970 dated M39s, cut down M91 barrels or were some of the barrel blanks unfinished M39 barrels ?

Sorry, I can't remember every post that I have made over the years. Anyway, such claim would not be without merit. According "Military Small Arms in Finland 1918 - 1988" by Palokangas Part 2 page 81 after things had settled after World War 2 Valmet Oy Tourula Factories (State Rifle Factory / VKT renamed after the war) started negotiating about unfinished parts suitable for manufacturing M/39 rifles (or to be used as its spareparts), which it still has in storage. These parts included thousands of barrel blanks originally intended for M/91 infantry rifles, which were now shortened, milled and finished to standards of M/39 rifle barrel. Some of these barrels had VKT markings with serial number belonging to serial number range of M/91 infantry rilfles manufactured by VKT during the war while some were marked by Weapons Depot 1 with "AseV 1" marking and new serial number.

                        Regards

                        Jarkko

                          M-39 W/SN survey

I have a late model M-39, i have read that the 308 bullet is the best for the barrel rather than using the 303 bullet. What bullet do you use? Thanks.

I use .311 or .3105 bullets in mine.

I've heard that .308 bullets are appropriate for M28/30's.
