I thought original German stocked Mauser C96's were removed from the NFA - per page 38 - https://www.atf.gov/resource-center/...stpdf/download - per ATF Publication 5300.

They are fine federally, prohibition is strictly a California DOJ BS. It also applies to stocked HP (Inglis) and Lugers in California. There is also potential issue with non-original/copies stocks possessed with these handguns.

        Yes, the wording is:

Mauser, Model 1896, semiautomatic pistol, as produced by Mauser prior to 1940 accompanied
by original German mfd. detachable holster/shoulder stocks, any cal.

The WM monogram grips are interesting and kinda really cool!

CMR is a great resource for history and replacement parts for the civilian market C96's.

They have truly beautiful C96 cases for the collector who wants it all.

Then there's the M712 Mauser, this one is for sale, they want $30K which is a little steep, but I don't think they REALLY want to sell it.

            Clarification.

What is at issue is CA assault weapons laws.

The Mauser C96 with original stock/holster is not considered a SBR under Federal laws and CA laws, due to it being a C&R that was removed from the NFA registry.

The Mauser C96 with an unattached stock/holster is not considered a SBR under CA laws due to it's Federal C&R status. [PC 17705(a)]

Post-1898 Mauser C96 with attached stock/holster meets CA's definition of a "rifle" [PC 17090] and, since it's now a "rifle", it meets CA's definition of an assault weapon (semi-auto centerfire rifle with an overall length of less than 30"). [PC 30515(a)(3)]

There is no C&R exemption to CA assault weapons laws.

There is an antique firearm exemption to CA assault weapons laws. [PC 30515(d)(1)]

            This means...
... Mauser C96 made before 01-01-1899 [PC 16170(a)] are exempt from CA assault weapons laws and are CA legal to have it's stock/holster attached to it.
... Mauser C96 made after 12-31-1898 are not exempt from CA assault weapons laws and are CA illegal to have it's stock/holster attached to it.

Therefore, while in CA, post-1898 Mauser C96 should never have it's stock/holster attached to it.

All of the above also applies to other C&R handguns with stock/holster that were removed from the NFA registry.

              Quiet delivers

7.62x25 and .30 mauser is dimensionally identical.

The trick is to buy ppu 7.62x25 ammo, shoot it in a tokarev, then reload it for .30 mauser.
The dies are the same. I've made .30 mauser loads which work well. Load data is about starting levels (min) for 7.62 tok.

Nice examples. Mine has a lot of wear and some bolt issues but it's all number matching. I need to pull it back to load it, stripper clip wont fit all the way. Part of the bolt prevents clips to go in. Maybe its needs a work out to function again. No ammo, but surplus 7.62x25 fits. I figured with wore out bore it will handle it. No ones in the familly remember it ever being shoot and it was in my family for ever. I have plenty of 7.62x25 brass and might load it with .32 projecticles to give it a light work out.

                  Nice Bolo.

If you're near Los Angeles PM me, there is a LGS with a good supply of Fiocchi .30 Mauser in stock and it's less than a dollar a pop, which seems reasonable these days for a lesser known caliber.
