If in Bakersfield, if ever visiting LA area, stop by Martin B Retting, they have tons of C&R rifles and its out in the open so you can test drive them. Personally I'm a FTF transaction person, gun shows works too. Good luck.

Chinese SKS are available lately for like $500. Considering how cheap to feed these are it’s a relative bargain compared to older stuff.
Gunbroker has everything. But figure in a $75-100 transfer fee plus DROS and sales tax at your local FFL.Comment

Before you buy anything educate yourself. Get as much information as you can about the specific rifle you are considering buying.
Even in this digital world books written by experts about the specific type of rifle will be your best investment.
Yes, these books often cost $50 to $100. But they will save you far more than that in the long run.
Take it from someone who has collected military rifles for over forty years. I have many of my rifles in books and magazines, and have owned, or own many if not most of the available types and sub types of military rifles.
Buy the best condition, original and numbers matching rifles you can find. Even if they cost a good bit more than others.
The biggest pitfall is finding unaltered rifles. Many have had their stocks sanded, and aren't original. Don't take a sellers word for anything. Sellers lie.
Join the gunboards forum. There are many experts there and you can get some real good info there. But nothing replaces hands on experience.
Also as I said before buy books!!
Below are a few pics of some of my library of reference books and magazines.

Not much military surplus entering the supply change anymore. Almost everything is on the secondary market..... collector - collector, etc. Except maybe the CMP, almost nothing is available from importers, and hasn't been for a while.Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

I know a little bit about the current market for military surplus firearms. IMO, your best bet is going to be a SKS with regards to ammo availability. Second would be something chambered in.308 (FAL, Hk/PTR) or in .30-06 like a Garand, US Enfield or ‘03 Springfield.MLC member.

Honestly I think you will prob find better stuff/deals looking right here on Calguns or a few other good sites than you would at your LSG. I wont lie and say I've never found some decent stuff at a place like MBR or American Gun Works, but by far the best were always PPTs from fellow CG's.Comment
