Slowly getting back into C&Rs.... quick legal update?

A wife and 2 kids later.... life is finally slowing down enough to get back into collecting. Planing on re applying for my 03 FFL. It lapsed after my first was born 5 years ago hoping to be a regular here like i was before.

I also had some time to sort through my collection. After letting is sit (except for yearly oilings) for a few years I can see my interests have shifted. I will be listing some stuff for sale in the next few weeks. Also realizing that handguns take up a LOT less safe room.

my knowledge of CA gun laws for C&R is a *bit* dated. Any good primers out there to catch me up quickly that you can share.

FTF for C&R rifles ok with 03 and COE?
C&R (well all)Handguns through PPT still I assume.
buying 03 handguns and long guns out of state ok so long as I take physical possession there and carry across border, register within 10 days?
with 03 FFL and limit to amount you can bring back to CA at once? or purchase in state?

Been browsing newer posts... good to see some familiar names. hope you all are well.

Correct, all handgun transfers must be done through a CA FFL dealer.

Yes. Report within 5 days of returning to CA with the C&R firearms.

No limit on the amount of C&R firearms you can bring back to CA.
No limit on the amount of C&R firearms you can acquire within CA.

    2. No 1 in 30 day wait on handguns and semi-auto centerfire rifles. [PC 27535(b)(9)]
    3. Can be used as proof of CA residency. [PC 26845(b) & 11 CCR 4045(d)(1)]
    4. When acquiring C&R firearms, it is an exemption to needing a valid Firearm Safety Certificate. [PC 31700(a)(6)]
    5. When acquiring C&R firearms, it is an exemption to needing to do a safe handling demonstration. [PC 26850(h) & 26860(g)]
    6. Acquiring a C&R long gun inside of CA without needing to utilize a CA FFL dealer. Must report this type of transfer to CA DOJ within 30 days. [PC 27966]
    7. Acquiring ammunition without needing to utilize a CA DOJ licensed ammunition vendor. [PC 30312(c)(6)]
    9. Either online or in person, importing ammunition acquired out-of-state without needing to utilize a CA DOJ licensed ammunition vendor. [PC 30312(c)(6) & 30314(b)(5)]

Exemptions for a CA resident with a valid C&R 03-FFL:
    1. Importing a C&R firearm that they physically acquire while outside of CA without needing to utilize a CA FFL dealer. Must report this type of acquisition and importation into CA to CA DOJ within 5 days of returning to CA with the C&R firearm. [PC 27585(b)(1) & 27565]

        Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Old copy paste job with CGF/FPC initial determination.

          Edited it with correct info.

so if I want to order ammo online again I need to get a COE? like most of us i have a few oddball calibers that are generally only found online.

            Really appreciate the response!

With a valid C&R 03-FFL and a valid COE, it is legal to order ammo online and have it shipped directly to your address.

However, it is up to the vendor if they are willing to accept it or implement a policy/program that will allow it.

So, check with the vendor if they will honor that exemption, before placing an order.

Here is a link to some California friendly ammo suppliers, seems to be pretty current.

                  Good luck with your quest...

With the amount of gun loving folk and folk with expendable $ in Texas, C&R's are hard to find. Not many Texans sell off Grandpa's guns.

I've just been buying off roster things for reasonable prices and items banned by name in CA.

Yes, met you in Pleasanton. You bought a 91/30 from me, then I think I picked up a M39 from you. That was a while ago!
