    Belated follow up.

On 27 June I sent a polite inquiry with all my info. Wasn't a "when will it be done?" but rather "here is info in case needed" note. Next day response was that renewals take 4 to 8 weeks. A day later they sent the approval.

IIRC did the same thing last year. Not sure what tripped the switch, or just coincidence.

I received the “we need your FFL number” email and “incomplete” status on my COE renewal yesterday.

Replied to the email with a slightly modified post 19 and resubmitted on cfars with the modified post in the comments section.

Just logged onto CFARs right now. My renewal was approved. Don’t give them your FFL 03 number!

If you are using your FFL03, you have to put it on all the other forms you send them for transfers. Not sure why it matters if they have it in one more place. Refusing not-required pictures, I get. But a license number that they already have and you already give them other times, doesn't seem important.

Unless my FFL number is on my DROS or online ammo purchases they do not have it. I will not give them a number that is NOT REQUIRED by law to obtain their COE.

You aren’t sure why it matters having to provide EXTRA information to a state agency that IS NOT required by law?

It’s totally an intimidation tactic. They tell you they need your number. They reject your application as incomplete. They tell you in order to process it, they need your number and to resubmit your application.

You question them about it, and magically the application is complete and they are able to process it.

Would you (or anyone for that matter) provide your FFL number to them if in the email they asked “it’s not a requirement to obtain your COE, but would you voluntarily give us your FFL number?”

They are attempting to collect unnecessary information from you regarding firearms, with the threat of them not processing your COE.

If anyone cares for another data point - submitted COE renewal on cfars July 26. I attached copy of DL and 03 from the start. Renewal approved today Aug 25. No emails, no back-and-forth incomplete stuff. So 30 days even when they got all the info they wanted up front.

Mine was about 30 days without giving them the 03.

I have 394 days until my expiration.

My COE expires on October 30. I logged on to renew. I get an error message that says real ID is required. I have a real ID. I sent them a copy of it last year. Any suggestions?

Yeah, just resubmit it again. For some reason, they want you to id yourself every year.

Just give them everything upfront every year at this point. I think they kick it back on everybody.

On the ID information and right most portion of the COE renewal page, there is a question you have to answer something like "What kind of ID do you have?". The drop-down choices are Real ID or something like "Federal Limits ID".
