Relief cut, i cant remember where, but i read that was the week spot on stars
My star bm's all have something like it
I would have to pullout my other stars, but i think its correct.

Yes that cut is normal, other brands / 1911s have that cut too.
The frame has a tendency to flex and then crack at that spot, the cut eliminates the problem.

I ended up resorting to using Ebay to get Model B mags. They weren't cheap, but I snagged a 3-pack for 25 bucks a mag, which is still alot cheaper than the Triple K mags and was below the average market price for surplus Model B mags.
