Make sure that you get it dated before shooting it.
Pre 1898 rifles need a slightly lighter load than their 1899+ counter parts.

The picture is too small, but does your gun have a safety? Looks like it's missing.

Open the bolt, pulling it all the way to the rear. Then hold the bolt handle in your right hand, using your left hand to lift up on the extractor, located right above the locking lug.

Once you've lifted the extractor about 1/8 to 1/4 inch, turn the bolt handle slightly to the left and pull it to the rear. Pull the bolt completely out.

If you pull and hold the trigger while doing the above, it may go smoother on the way out.

I don't think OP can get past lifting the bolt handle. Please read before posting advice.

I did; looked at photo, interpreted his comment as how far, not how high.

"...can only get it open as far as seen in the picture. It looks like its in good shape and the bolt moves smoothly to the stopping point."

So my comments still apply. Be sure to pull and hold the trigger, then do the above after.

I've had a LOT of Krags over the years and still do - have never had such a problem removing a bolt but have had a few doing what the OP is describing and performing the above worked without issue.

Is there an expend cartridge in the chamber?

In your video, it looks like the safety is in the "on" position (shooter's right). Did you try switching it to "off" (shooter's left)?

                      So, who was right?

Take off the stock. Drop some Kroil oil or 50/50 ATF to acetone mix down the muzzle. Close diameter brass or walnut dowel from the muzzle and a hammer.

Use a cleaning rod with no jag to pop the casing out by bouncing it. Don't close the bolt on it.

Get a cleaning rod and drop it down the barrel. It’ll pop the shell out.

An otherwise nice looking, perhaps beautiful rifle.

You have a nice original 30-40 Krag. I also have one that has been in my family for a long time. I wish that bubba had not altered it for hunting deer. Most of these Krags were sold back in the day by the NRA to promote marksmanship after they were deemed obsolete for service in the military.
