That's good to know, maybe I should get another one or 3, since supply is said to be dwindling over the next year or so, with no known new source on the horizon.

I'd heard there were Korean M1s and Carbinesready to come over, but that the CMP wouldn't be handling them, can anyone clear up my misinformation here? Thanks.

As the story goes the Koreans wanted toooo many hands greased and way to much in the greasing Orest aint having NONE of it....at least that's how the story goes.

These are NOT new finds, I *think* they're just catching up from the last show-sales and are back to fullfilling orders of the NON greek returns...while they last. There was NO mention before they were 'pulled' last time...which is why so much speculation. Usually they'll post that they're running low BEFORE they sell out. So many have thunked that they were simply pulled from sales for a bit for the crew to catch up on other orders.

I had an email from the CMP about 'returning' Garands but I can't find it now.

Keep in mind that the CMP does not purchase rifles, as I understand it. They are strictly donation/military surplus rifles only. The story of the Korean M1/Carbines and the Russian G43 is that they want too much money for them and they would only sell if someone purchased ALL of them, no ifs ands or butts. I heard the Koreans were asking something like $400 a pop for the Carbines and Russian for the Russians were asking something like $600 for the G43s, and keep in mind that is before Customs, dealer marks up, etc and there is no compensation for firearms that are damaged beyond use. Someone calculated it out and it and it was nearly a million up front for the rifles. Needless to say, no one in any country is willing to put up that collateral for a single shipment.

As for the Garands, I believe this is their LAST shipment coming in. Before this I had doubts if they would make it to Christmas with their inventory, now, I don't know. The email I got from the CMP, that I can't find now (probably deleted it after reading it) said that they were in the process of going over rifles returned or donated from different clubs and organizations around the country. These would NOT be returns from another country and there would only be 2,500 or so in total with absolutely no more coming in after that from this particular source. I believe this is the start of those rifles. I would not hesitate; if you want a Garand from the CMP, get it NOW. There was also some mention of 1903 coming back but in lesser numbers than the Garands and they did not at the time know if they were 1903s or 1903A3s nor did they know manufacturers.

This is pretty much it, I have a feeling that beginning of 2007 will mark the CMP from being the rifle warehouse it is now to becoming a non-profit ammo/parts 'retailer' with random auctions from time to time on a donations only basis. Outside of that, they will do their competitions and setting up their youth shooting clubs but that is it, or so I believe.

Actually the CMP does pay for the Garands turned over to them.. I talk to a buddy of mine who has Orest Michaels era and visits the CMP from time to time and ther CMP pays about $100 per rifle they receive from the Army.

I know someone that ordered a service grade 1945 Springfield Arsenal rifle on Nov 2nd and received the shipping information that it will be delivered tomorrow. It looks more like 15 days instead of 60 days.

{Shhhh on}....Our items were shipped two days after the charge showed up - Fed Ex 'Priority' delivery - which I understand means 'in the morning." So I just gotta take off tomorrow because I don't wanna miss the delivery. The 60-120 day wait seems like a good policy to allow some wiggle room and account for the likely rush and end of year/new year shipping crush sure to impact all distribution.{Shhhh off}

The "order received" e-mail was dated Nov. 8 not Nov 2. Sorry if I sent you the wrong date.
That puts it at 9 days from receipt of order to fine example of WWII history at my front door. Est. delivery time tomorrow morning at 10:30. I am on vacation so I will stay home and wait for the BWT.
I figured with the 60-90 day wait I could pass it off to the wife as a Christmas present to myself. Since the wife is in Florida visiting her Grandmother she won't know it was ordered or delivered. This is just like winning the lottery! Now, what do I want for Christmas........

They have to reimburse the Army for the expenses to ship to Anniston and to transfer them to the CMP. The amount can vary.
