Mauser red9 ?

I did it. Paid too much but ... Local shop had some lugers and this broom handle in 9mm. Was torn, artillery luger? Or broom handle 9mm?
Ended going with the red9.
My first broom a yone have some tips?
Hope it was a better choice vs that sweet luger.

The sight is definitely a 50-500m model. Less graduations and wider slots between each graduated marker is a clear sign of the 500m sight. Probably is a legit Red 9.

Mauser asking price of 3500. Paid 3 plus dros and tax 3300.00.

Short luger, lower left 2500 non negotiating.

Artillery, asking 3500 but would take 3k.

Us made luger 5500 eek!

I went in for the shorty luger at 2500. Then the artillery. Owner talked me into the red 9. Claimed it is rare, and the condition is pretty good. No rust or pitting.

It was more than I wanted to spend. But my kids will be happy after im gone. Lol.

All Mauser "Red 9" Prussian Contract Broomhandles were made during the First World War, roughly between 1916-1918 as auxiliary weapons to be issued to officers as an ersatz weapon to the standard-issue Luger P-08, as war tends to create shortages of anything in standard issue, the Luger was no exception.

I think 150k were made for the Prussian contract in 9mm, but course it remains a question how many still survive in good condition after two world wars.

If you plan on shooting it, I would get a full Wolff spring kit for the gun, as Broomhandles require factory spec springs in order to fire safely and not beat the gun to death.

The full spring kit from Woff Gunsprings have worked well for me in multiple broomhandles that I have refurbished to shooting condition.

The most important spring being the hammer spring, as it is the strength of the hammer spring that retards the bolt travel rearwards as it recoil back when firing, which would then spare the bolt stop from taking a pounding. If the bolt stop (or the bolt stop reciever extension) were to shear off, you'd get the bolt flying back into your face under recoil. Not good.

Is it ok? Regarding year made? Can I use that pack on the 1916? When I looked up the next block of years, no 9mm was shown vs the 1911 date?

Lol I went in for the luger... Never knew about the 9 broomy from Germany. I knew china made them, but to see that German mark [emoji2]0 like sophies choice!
