Thanks for posting Op...Yours looks like my old Imbel I built in the 90s. It was a century import that I had bead-blasted and black oxided then placed in a hand re-finished monkey wood kit. It came out like a playboy centerfold... sure miss that one, sure wish I'd have taken a photo of it.... Replaced it with a low SN
M1A (that I don't regret)Comment

And here's the '60s era Suez Crisis era L1A1 and the '80s era Falklands War era L1A1 together.

FALs, inch or metric, are the coolest, most proven .308 rifles in the world---IMHO. Also the softest shooting of any .308 rifle out there. I've had three full size metric versions---an FN, and two Argie factory made rifles---still have the FN... I've owned and/or shot most every 308 that made it across our border and it still draws the most attention when I uncase it at the range... Everybody wants to handle/shoot it!
Went to our 200 yard private club range, and there were three guys and a girl shooting three different M1As. The girl asked me what kind of rifle it was, and I explained it's history. She asked what ammo it shot, and I told her the same ammo they were shooting (American made white-box) and she asked if she could shoot it. I said sure and she grabbed a couple boxes of their ammo and and loaded-up a couple of magazines. I explained it loaded just like an M1A, and she did---after firing three rounds, she turned to me and said: "This rifle doesn't kick at all!" She shot the rest of her ammo and then her guy friends wanted to shoot it, and they did. They all said how much they liked the FN and were going to buy one! Of course, this was about twenty years ago and you could still buy such things...Comment

I can shoot my FALs all day but the G3 I'm about done after two mags worth because the recoil is so harsh. I know you can reduce it by getting a heavy buffer and other things like a different angled locking cam but it's just easier to deal with the FAL and tuning the gas system just right.Comment
