    L1A1 SLR

Took it out of the safe this weekend and decided to take some photos of mine fully kitted-up. Built on an English 1960 kit with a forged Entreprise L1A1 ABNI receiver. The wood furniture is a repro set made Ironwood with slightly thicker hand guard as the original wood handguards were somewhat fragile. The L1A2 kabar-stype bayonet matches the gun quite nicely and I imagine makes a pretty useful utility knife as well as bayonet.

The SUIT sight is a bit goofy but is an early example of a 4x prismatic battle optic which we see in modern times with the ACOG. It even has tritium inserts to illuminate the reticle a little bit in low light situations.

The L1A1 of course having a storied history within the British Armed Forces, from the early 60-70s in Northern Ireland during "The Troubles" to the early 80s in the Falklands. A lot of history in these line of rifles serving the United Kingdom in its various conflicts.

My SUIT is Brit. I also reinstalled the tritium insert in mine with an orange-red vial as red was unavailable at the time.

Definitely on the short list of most elegant self loading rifles ever produced.

                        still had this.

Those are some sweet looking L1A1s. The wood furniture really makes them so much better looking.
