I'm wondering if these were among the parts that were hand fitted?

well my mauser bayonet I don't think it's just dirty cosmo. It won't go on like at all. I'm afraid to force it since I doubt it would ever come off. The lug appears to be original, it's the same patina as the rest of the rifle. I'll do some cleaning though anyhow. Since the whole reason I bought these was for the rifles, I may just have to pick up another and keep trying.

I've seen some Mosin bayos that don't fit well on a particular rifle. I think this may not be an uncommon issue with some C&R rifles.

not that anyone's all that concerned with my bayonet problems, but I've sourced the issues. The muzzle ring on the 1917 was in fact bent. Didn't notice before, but just enough it was getting wedged once the lug started to engage. I torqued it a tad in a vice and it only slightly improved, but that's all I'm doing since I won't risk snapping it off, and I'm not going to torch soften or anything crazy. that's as good as it'll get. The mauser bayonet won't be fitting ever. I measured the channel and the lug with calipers. The end of the bayonet channel is slightly pinched, and it's .02" too small. I won't be trying to pry it open, I found another and bought it, and the new one fits. WTS thread up in a few minutes for a nice-but-may-not-fit-all-rifles bayonet...

Don't go by markings many Chinese reproductions have the right markings but very bad machining. likely they would fit a Chinese reproduction rifle.

Many will fit with a little filing.

Maybe put a bit of oil in the lug to help lubricate it a little, and just put it on and off again and it should break in over time.

One K98 bayonet I collected was very gritty going on and I backed off attaching it.. Took it apart and it was full quite a bit of sand.
Obviously proof it was used by Afrika Korps.

Of the three bayonets I collected they all fit a little bit different. One was pretty tight at first. Another loosey goosey. Another the angle slightly off. Makes sense all three different years, different factories. I'll have to see how well they fit on my buddies Mauser someday.

I had a Japanese Kiffe made M5 bayonet that wouldn't fit on several M1 rifles. What it was made to fit was a mystery to me. The channel was just slightly too narrow.
