Jeweled my Astra 900 broomhandle PICS of finished project

Went ahead and jeweled the Astra

Outer cover done, internals not yet done. You can see faint jeweling on the internals

    End product

    Old thread and back story

I recently acquired an astra 900. The gun operates great, and looks pretty good considering its age.

The inside of Astras are jeweled. See 11:20 point in this video

Mine has jeweling, but it's been diminished in brilliance by oxidation and also some water, a few drops, which created some rust on the side plate internally.

see the damage around the edges??

No. It will detract from the condition. Unless you refinish the whole thing, which I would not.

And say it's yours do what you want with it.

Bedazzle the whole thing inside and out.

Joking aside, I would think there are easier ways to take care of the minor rust issues you're describing (possibly a light sandblasting?) without going through the hassle of rejeweling all the parts.

I'm actually a fan of Astra pistols and most of the models were brought in to the US in numbers that don't make them rare. But I'm not sure that's the case for the 900.

Only 22,000 of the 900's made, so I think they're rare to begin with. However they are a clone, albeit an actual improvement on the original.

One day they might be valued accordingly but not in my lifetime.

I also have a constable. It's a PPK/s knock off. Again it's a very high quality gun but walther just is really tough to beat in quality.

Partial restoration. Do it all or leave as is.

I don't know that gun, but I've always wanted a broom handle anything. Don't mess with it. I'd rather buy it as it is now than I would after somebody fixed it. Thanks for the video, it was fun.

Ah....I'd recommend cocaine or maybe pot over broomhandles. It's cheaper and less exasperating.

I'd leave it. They're only original once.

With that said, very cool pistol and I hope you enjoy it!

The inside finish and patina matches the outside...

If you re-jewel the internals the difference between the inside and outside will be very obvious.

My vote is to mitigate the corrosion and leave it matching...

Jeweling is really accomplished with micro scratches or scratches of whatever abrasive u are using. Toothpaste or other polishes just reduces the jeweling effect.

I think svt-40 might be right on but the astra in the video is an aged patina outside and brilliant jeweling inside. That could be due to the packing grease protecting the metal the last 80 years!!

Really torn on this one. Jeweling brushes show tomorrow.
