    Luger ID & Value

I have a chance to purchase this DWM 30cal luger for $750. It is serial 2958, matching numbers. It's reblued with stag grips! Magazine has wood end.
Good deal or too many issues? Not my field of expertise.
    Thanks

It's a shooter Luger now. Probably fine at that price if you want it to put rounds through.

I'd pass. For $750 (or a few $$$ more) you can find a shooter in 9 that hasn't been buffed down.

Original German Lugers are never cheap, even if they have have been pimp shined and equipped with ugly, tacky, aftermarket grips. I would balk at that price, but as Gutter said, it could still make a good range gun. PPU makes new brass cased ammo in .30 Luger and MecGar makes magazines, but I'd plateau at about $600 for that pistol.

Well, my input would be to say, people pay that much for a Plastic Glock or other such modern Firearms. Me personally, I would be thrilled to take the Luger over a new made Firearm at the same price.

Yes the reblue hurts as far as serious collectors. People often fail to recognize there are different level of collectors out there. I for one cannot afford Pristine 2000.00+ Lugers. These types I can. But it is a fine Firearm nonetheless. And will still appreciate in the future. The modern stuff depreciates the day you buy it and keeps doing so..

Lugers are just such natural shooters.

Pass. It's been buffed down worse than the one I inherited from my father. And finding ammo for that is not easy.

Wait and shop around and you can find one closer to original finish in 9mm (easy to find ammo) for the same price.

And I STRONGLY suggest that you join and post over at the Luger Forum and ask your questions there. And ask about buying a good shooting grade Luger as well. They'll all good guys over there and they won't steer you wrong.

looks like a lot of pitting under the reblue

not just them, I want more pics

I have dies for that caliber

My only Luger's now are 9mm but in the old days I had a 30. None of my Lugers are numbers matching, the one in my avatar WAS number matching when I bought it in 1978 but its not anymore and I thoroughly enjoyed shooting every round through it and still do. They are as someone already said, natural shooters. I am one that really enjoys Lugers but number matching one are museum pieces at museum prices. I think $750 is ok for that one, high but ok. For that price I would rather it be a 9mm.

for that kind of money I would spend it on a WW2 Walther P-38 instead

This. Saw some locally in the $550 - $650 range. Again, $750 is on the high end of something that would be a toy. If it were $500, I couldn't pull my credit card out fast enough. At $600, I'm pretty confident. $700+ is where I go meh, but if you've been looking, it's worth it.

I am glad my Lugers are both in 30 Luger. It completely rules out the possibility of mixing in some hot WW white box sub gun 9mm ammo or craptastic reload and turning my 100 year old pistols into grenades.

Or a sweet postwar Interarms P1 and extra mags & ammo.

Post war civilian made Lugers cost more than original ones, ffs.
