Someone sanded the heck out of the stock, and re-stamped the numbers... I would guess it was done here in an attempt to increase the value and pass it off as... How knows what.
    Poke'm with a stick!

Unless you find a great deal, that is not a cost effective option for a mixmaster. A non-capture, non-rework, original K98 stock set would cost at least $300, and still won't be correct or matching. If the existing stock is serviceable and decent looking, call it a day. Spend that dough on some 8mm surplus instead.

Good info here. Let me ask in the interest of historical accuracy. The Romanians were German Allies, and fought and died with them. So a Romanian Capture isn't entirely accurate description, right ?

Romania used VZ-24s they had purchased from Czechoslovakia before the 2nd world war. They purchased around 600,000 of these rifles. The Romanians probably used these rifles during WW2 against the Soviets. In August 1944, the deposed King Michael led a successful counter-coup against the fascist government and switched sides against the Axis. The fought the rest of the war alongside the Soviets. Given this, they could've captured K98ks during the final phases of the war.
