As a side note, there are more assembled-from-surplus/scrapped parts USGI carbines from the late 50's/early 60's in circulation than there are actual surplussed whole guns from uncle sam. Not to mention the commercial carbines from the same period, of which there are millions.
Just curious, what commercial manufacturer produced millions of commercial M1 carbines

I was referring to all of them, from the early 60's to present day. Shouldn't have said same period.
            You get the idea.

Yep! That is why that last batch of Carbines from The CMP had way more orders than guns. Straight from the US Army. I'm lucky to have gotten one, I'll never let go of it.

But they may tell you the selling price and date sold if it was one of the CMP Auction items. Found out last year I picked up a $850 CMP Auction Carbine sold on the CMP Auction site March 2008 for $600! Plus it still had the CMP hangtag on it!
And yes the letter does cost $25.

that one could track their Garand down
The State of California is slowly accomplishing what the army could not do with its DROS and registration processes, the ability to track your firearms...of course, that is not the kind of tracking not everyone would want tracked down.
