Once again I seen to have fallen victim to my nearly uncontrollable urge to buy random old guns. This time I ran into what I felt was a fair deal on a K31. My son has one and I have always felt that if I wanted to shoot one, I would just borrow his, but this seemed like a pretty good deal at $225 so I threw down the Benjamins and brought it home.
My research of the serial number says it was made in 1954 and like nearly everyone of these I have seen, the metal is in about 100% condition with matching numbers on the receiver, bolt and magazine, the bore is perfect and the stock is somewhat beat. I succumbed to my usual OCD and have purchased a correct sling dated the same year the rifle was made and a bayonet. I am starting to think I may have a problem......

I like the Swiss crest, also the perfect bluing. The entire rifle is like this.
Angry beavers attacked the butt.
But the front isn't too bad.
I'm going to order some of the surplus GP11 (or whatever is available) tomorrow and take it out to the desert and see how it does.
