You know those times when you wish you could go back and undo something. I wish I could undo the reading of this thread.

lol. Usually people asking about getting guns without doing background checks/ going through FFLs are felons looking for a gun...

I think that Santa Barbara shooter did that. Bought a black powder revolver and put a cartridge cylinder conversion in it.
Emotional appeal is a marketing tactic and not a foundation for effective argument.

Sounds like something Gavin Newsome or Kevin De Leon would say. What a turd of a post

I think that was the Santa Monica shooter, that and like an 80% build. I think the Santa Barbara shooter mainly used a Glock.

No. Just about every gun guy I know has bought and/or sold guns off-paper and none are criminals, other than the crimes of having conducted illegal transactions.

Personally, I would not recommend them for a CCW gun nor would I recommend carrying one that is charged but not capped. If caught, you'll end up spending tens of thousands of dollars to prove that you were following the law. It's simply not worth it. locked, unloaded concealed carry of a modern gun which uses metallic cartridges is a far better option for those without a CA LTC.
If the OP is bound and determined to use a antique Holy Black handgun, if even one was somehow miraculously approved for licensed carry or as LUCC; a topbreak BP cartridge revolver could be used with a speed loader. But packin' something that is a powerful enough stopper like a S&W Schofield or similar would require a pretty good sized locked container.

I may possibly acquire a black powder handgun at some point but i have no intention whatsoever of concealed carrying it. This thread was for discussion and info ONLY. Dont read anything into it. And i certainly dont appreciate any implications that I am a criminal of any type. Guys, I thought thats what this site was for? To discuss guns and gun related issues??? Some of these posts just make me shake my head in wonder. As for the rest of the posts, I thank you for your info and wise observations. Lets stick together folks, divided is exactly what the gun haters want us to be

Keep an eye on Cabella's. I got a Pietta 1858 on sale for under $200. I chose the short one just because I liked it more. The standard length model will give more velocity and easier loading because the lever is longer. They come with two instruction manuals that give different loadings, one from Pietta and another from Cabella's. One of them is really low and the other one is dangerously low. You can't get enough black powder into one to hurt it so the max load is whatever you can fit. I've run up to around 40 grains which is at least double what's in one of the books. A load that's too small can be a danger. I assume nobody's managed to blow one up since they keep printing those stupid low charges. The other problem with a low charge would be possible miss-fires and hang-fires.
