Don't use Turk surplus in it, you'll break it. The powder used made for a violent pressure curve that will beat the action.
With a good hammer spring, Yugo surplus works well. I stockpiled spam cans of Romanian for mine, but it's dried up.
The muzzle brake end cap usually isn't properly indexed for the exhaust ports to line up correctly, and it does make a difference when they are.
The extractor/ejector can be tuned to eject without denting cases, or a piece of automotive vacuum tubing on the slide handle will work too.

Do yourself a favor and buy a gas adjustment tool. They have metal ones on ebay for a reasonable price. I bought one from a guy on gunboards years ago but don't remember his name. Buy whatever ammo you can get cheap(not turk) and adjust your gas valve to function with it. Definitely put a piece of rubber hose on the shell deflector if you plan to re-use brass.

Congrats on a killer deal on the hakim too, don't see prices like that anymore. I still need to get one, only have a ljungmann right now...

Since Photobucket hosed us all, I'm trying out tinypic for my videos.
Me shooting my Hakim up in the Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho at Slate Creek. I had a 25rnd German MG-13 mag in it. Fully loaded, the gun weighed about 13lbs! 25 rounds in less than 7 seconds and all on target. The ricochets make it look like I'm spraying the hill behind the rock though. We spent the day before with the boys and their Mosins undercutting a boulder the size of a minivan, with steel core heavy ball. When it dropped, it turned to gravel, you can see the remains down in the creek.

I was all hot for a Hakim 14 years ago. I could never find one so I never got one. Then the surplus 8mm dried up. A few years ago I saw one locally and got to look it over. Nice to finally hold one. I sure wouldn't want to have to feed one at today's prices. Although seeing how much you saved on the rifle you got some money for Hakim food.

ive been in ohio for a few weeks for work. of course this means searching for barn find cars and gun stores. called around and a shop nearby mentioned they had just got a hakim.. "We're not really into milsurps and dont know much about them, i got it cheap.. ill sell it for 350 out the door".. i couldnt resist and gave him my cc info immediately, sight unseen.. finally got a chance to pick it up and im super excited about my new piece.... i know, TlR cool starry bra
