Can't believe they are getting $930 for an M1 service grade now. That's twice what I paid just 5 years ago.

Everything was cheaper yesterday.

Not if us "old timers" (and proud to be one by the way) let our spouses and children know what every thing is worth as I have done, and do with periodic value updates. Nothing of mine will be sold at a give away price. If you want it you'll pay the market price.

Price is set by supply and demand not by what you think it is worth. If your heirs dont want them then they will go into the supply with all the others whose heirs dont want them. The price will depend on how many buyers are demanding them. Basic economics.

Exactly and odds are the majority of them will die within a 10 year period. It will be known to us younger collectors as the Silver Age of Milsurps.

It's already happening. I saw a huge collection come through a LGS about 9 months ago. Guy died, heirs weren't gun folk and just called the shop to haul them off in bulk and consign them with no instructions on valuation at all. I was broke and my 03 had lapsed so I missed out, but what I saw was pretty sweet.

Back in 2008 I got a Service Grade WRA for $795 and a Correct Grade HRA for $975. (Service Grade SA and HRA were $595 at the time.) So the Service Grade WRA has gone up only $135 in 9 years, not that much. https://web.archive.org/web/20081205...g/m1garand.htm

I didn't think they were that much in 2008. If you really think about it they have only increased very little in price being $795 in 2008 is like $905 today. So after factoring in inflation they have only increased $25.

Those inflation calculators use government data which strips out food and fuel so the inflation numbers look better than they really are. So factoring real inflation it could have actually decreased in price.

Don't forget...those older prices did not include shipping and handling, which was another $23 and the rifles are now shipped in a rather nice hard sided gun case (probably another $25-$30). The rifles used to be shipped in a cardboard box.

I went ahead and ordered one to fill out my collection. Some have reported receiver GI wood...so I'm hoping. The serial number that CMP appended to my invoice indicates a WIN-13 receiver.

The tally on CMP Forum is now 14 delivered WRA's with new CMP wood and 2 with USGI wood (neither with W wood if I recall correctly), but some nice receivers with original barrels in the mix. Still not sold out so there is still time to order...

Never shot it so I don't know how good it is.

I agree. There are as many Garands as Mosins hoarded away in collections. When the old timers die or sell, prices will drop, and you will have your pick of the litter.

Well, I bought my fist Mosin for $39 and my first CMP Garand for $169.

The Del Mar Gunshow has had $89 Sks's, $129 for Russian and $199 M1 Carbines.

In 40+ years of collecting, I've yet to see any milsurp drop in price from collectors
flooding the market.

And I'm sure we'll never see the above prices again.

In 20 more years a bunch of them are going to be dying off. Thats when a lot of collections will be liquidated so that heirs can buy the latest iphone or electronic gadget.
