Interesting. I have never seen this before. The NK SKS does not have the muzzle device and GL sights for launching a grenade. The valve must serve to adjust gas blowback. Seems having the option to go from semi-auto to bolt action would not make sense for a battle rifle...

I don't know what that is either. It looks like the unique profile you'd see on a 1949 Russian Tula SKS but those don't have any sort of gas cut off. It is just an earlier design.

Most of the examples found in the US have gas cut off - They also have the copy of M15 launcher site attached -

We believe they used a copy of the M8 grenade launcher as a few North Vietnamese SKSs have turned up with them -

A friend had an NVA launcher in his collection - Arsenal stamped with the 1 inside star -

The copies of the M15 and M8 was also found with the Type 44 and 53 documented bring back from VN -

These were also used with the US M1 carbine - As a few of those were documented bring back from VN -

That's our guess too, of course there's no import marks on it. Sadly we don't have any capture paperwork on it either.

This is a nice rifle!
For some reason there are very few NK's with capture papers; I've owned 5 and only one had papers. Another advanced collector had nine at one time and none had docs. Several years ago I saw one on an online dealer's site that had a fake capture paper. I notified them that the rifle was legit and more than fairly priced ($1800 back then) but the paper was a fake. Their reply was that they asked a guy who was in Vietnam and he said that it was good so they were sticking with their documents. Duh, I could even tell from the docs who the faker was and I'd also seen several hundred good as well as bad docs but the dealer didn't want to hear that.

It's in awesome shape for sure! I'm sad to see it go.

I personally have not seen another NK SKS, but for all the stuff we get in that's likely a bring back very little of it has any supporting documentation. And you are totally right in that you find tons of fake paperwork too.

The only NK made thing with papers we have gotten was some little home made single shot pistol in .45 ACP'ish.
