    Mauser Experts Needed

I won this Iraq Contract German Mauser on Gun Broker for $299. Is there anything wrong with it? bore is nice. Some pitting here and there but rifle seems to be re blued at places.

At $299 and nice bore, you scored. yes, refinished. russian capture and I think that it is also Iraqi at some point as well. Clean it up and shoot it like you stole it because it's been many years since RC k98ks sold for $299.

Oh, and 660 is early Steyr. Nice.

There was no German contract with Iraq to supply Mausers. Iraq obtained captured or surrendered K98k's after World War II for use by the Republican Guard.
        Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

You actually have a very rare code with 660 in that date. Most were made in 1940, and few actually came off the assembly line in 39.

The varnish on the stock and the bluing that looks like black paint. AFAIK, the Russians were the only ones who blued Mauser bolts and sight ladders.

I am pretty sure Germans blued WWII era bolts - some were parkerized at the end of the war. Why else would people say that Mitchell Mausers stand out with their in the white bolts? The buttplates of German Mausers were in the white, pics don't show that in the OP's shots but one can assume it was blued by the Ruskies.

It's worth more than what you paid, it's a nice score.

I'm going to call bull****. No k98 on gunbroker sells for $299.

Aside from that nice rifle, mixmaster stamped floorplate on a '39 rifle is no go.

I withdraw my previous statement. Just been a while seeing complete k98s sell for that much. I dig the history and Iraqi acceptance marks.

Nice score. I am surprised no one else bid.

Solid score. Hopefully we see a downward trend on RCs. The $4-500 was a little high. As for the GB auction, it seems like there were 3 bids. It's a shame the waffenamts were defaced. Have you stripped it down? Does the stock match (Highly unlikely given the lack of waffenamts and serial on the exterior of the stock but there might be numbers inside the stock)?
