Please help with rifle ID

A friend has this old rifle and I was asked to ID it and see if there is any value beyond a police buyback gift card or as a fireplace mantle decoration.

It is rusty as heck.

Side plate says something like A. Fordyce.

Top of barrel says LASGON or something like that.

Cracked stock has been repaired.
Ramrod broken at the end.
Bracket missing(?) at end of stock possibly.
No other markings I could see.

I will try next time I visit, but they were darn rusty.

I could see if they would clean up a bit, but was hesitant to mess with them until I asked here first.

I should have measured the barrel diameter also.

There was light engraving/scrollwork on it, but very hard to see.
(My wife has a much better camera than my phone.)

Whatever it is, I don't think that should be buy-back fodder. It's artsy enough it would make a nice decoration if it's too far gone to shoot

There is a little bit of sentimental value to it so that is probably what will happen.

Judging by the frugal design of the sheet-metal trigger guard, side-plate, and simple looking hammer, it looks like an inexpensive muzzle-loader "kit" gun, and maybe any time from the 1950s to 1970s or so judging by the aging of the stock and likely storage decay.

If it is 'period' it may have simply been a cheaply made one. Doubt there is any real value either way.

Garv, oil on a coarse piece of cloth, like burlap, and scrub where there is lettering. Fordyce Beals was a gun designer that went to work for Remington in the 1800's. If it's a Beals rifle, it's not a cheap wall hanger.

Owner is gone for a month but I will oil it up and get better pics. of the markings and scrollwork.

I have done some googling and found some of these IDs can be complicated.

After emailing a buddy he is leaning towards a Hawken Flintlock due to the scrolling trigger guard.
