    Two CMP questions

    Hello,

I am about to place an order with the CMP before I miss the train completely.

Do I really need to get a copy of my local gun stores FFL and include it in the order? I am used to buying online and providing a phone number, then having them fax it over.

Second question, how long does it take the Garand Collectors Association to send your membership card?

Thanks in advance. Cant wait to get my garand, a schuster plug, and a few boxes of ammo.

Unless something has changed CMP ships direct. Nothing to do with your LGS.

Direct shipping changed in CA when long gun registration went into effect. It now has to go through an FFL and you get to pay transfer, DROS and wait an extra 10 days. GCA takes a month or so to send the member package. If I remember they do have an online membership list that CMP can reference.
PS buy all the Greek ammo you can get your hands on - good stuff.

Yes, something has changed alright, but it's on our end in California, not with the CMP

To have rifles shipped to you, you now have to obtain both a c&r license, and COE.

If you plan to make a one time order, it's cheaper to go through an ffl.

Many FFLs won't provide you with their info, so just put their contact info on your order form and CMP will contact them.

The GCA will automatically notify the CMP of your membership if you checked the box allowing them to do so.

If your going to get a new gas plug for your Garand, the ones GarandGear sells are great. Many of us have them on our rifles.

Have you seen this? Makes the Garandgear plug seem like inferior hype gear.

Phooey, I'm so used to the C&R/COE stuff I haven't kept up.

That's interesting that the InRangeTV guys say the Garand Gear plug is insufficient when running some hotter ammo or 220gr. Garand Gear has an entire web page with test results that seems to show their plug is safe to use with a wide range of ammo. Their benchmark for "safe ammo" is Greek HXP. Although there could be some hotter ammo that Garand Gear never tested.

I don't have either plug. I still have a decent supply of HXP and can roll my own.

Maybe this is just two different ways to look at shooting hotter ammo. In the GarandGear test they were measuring pressure and the In Range guys were using a camera to measure op rod speed. Both seem valid but the pressure test seems more relevant to me. If the pressure generated is at or below M2 ball ammo spec then your op rod should be fine.

                      I agree to disagree here.
