its defenitely a hard gun to shoot, why dont you clean it and have someone who constantly shoots Mosin's put some rounds through it, at 50 yards i can put entire boxes of ammo on the black with iron sights, at 100 its a bit harder, like spiggy said, flinching was one of my big issues at first

Btw, if anyone is in the area, I will most likely be at the Yolo Sportsman's Association tomorrow around 1. If anyone is there, you can try shooting it.
Let us know how it goes. I have a feeling it'll be a lot better second time out.

Just thought about it logically, a mosin newby is less likely to know about the mechanics of twisted russian hardwoods than the fact that ruskie mosins have some of the most terrible trigger pulls among mosin-nagant rifles.

that, and most mosin newbies aren't prepared for the kind of "kiss" the steel buttplate will give you every time you plant 180 grains of metal downrange.

Hahaa amen to that, I know I wasnt ready, I was a bit sore (first time through i put 80 rounds through it ) and contemplated getting a rubber buttpad, but ive since gotten used to it and actually like the kick! But I have caught myself flinching right before the trigger pull sometimes, defenitely messes up your shot

I'm sure glad I listened to you guys!

I tried again today, and I'm glad to say it went a lot better. about a 1.5" group at 25 yards, a 2" group at 50 yards, and maybe 4-6" at 100 yards. I know I'm not good enough to do much better than that with iron sights, so I officially pronounce this rifle usable. Now I just need more practice.

Great news. 4" to 6" groups at 100 is definitely acceptable for a battle rifle like a Mosin. Ammo alone can shrink or enlarge those groups. Glad we could turn a disappointing purchase into something that brings a smile to your face with only a few simple tricks. Enjoy touching history!

Oh and keep an eye on those action bolts. They have a habit of loosening.
