    COMMIE AMMO

    Hi Fellas,

I haven't been paying attention to Mosin and SKS ammo pricing and availability.

Are these milsurp supplies drying up? I would expect there would be cost increases, like all things, but is the recent "Good Old Days" gone bye?

I'd seen a recent post elsewhere that a lot of dealers have much Commie ammo on consignment, and expect embargos to leave them in a lurch. PAX

    What is commie ammo?
    Surplus or commercial?????
Commercial sks ammo is anywhere around $219-$225 per 1k which is a tad lower then prior election times.

Surplus mosin been gone but still found at higher prices , cheapest I have seen for surplus was $180 a tin of 440rds.
As high as $227 for same tin.

Many think mosin surplus will make a come back ..... but despite any battles where stock may be getting used ......... during the mid 90's mosin surplus was loaded with true armor piercing bullets.
Now we can't import those .... so regardless don't hold your breath of cheap mosin surplus making a come back because even if peace breaks out tomorrow worldwide, there is another reason that will limit imports.
Commercial mosin ammo is still there ....... cost more?
More than what? More than when I stocked up sure but it's there.

The high prices are worth it now. Maybe, if trade restrictions come off eastern blac countriea and Russia, we may see more. I want to see cheap 7.62 x25, but even at today's prices, Mosin ammo is a bargain.

7.62x39 commercial ammo is widely available and reasonably priced. Some surplus pops up now and then but it's mostly commercial made now. I haven't seen cheap span cans of 7.62x54R for quite a while now. The new commercial ammo is just slightly more than surplus these days but it isn't corrosive which is nice.

The days of super cheap surplus ammo are largely gone but at least you have reasonably priced alternatives.

If President Trump's Bromance with Putin continues, we may again have a huge river of spam cans making their way to our shores, they have billions of rounds over there they would like to sell to us.

Do they? I can't find the discussion on the subject, but the last batch of imports, the spam cans were mostly dated 1988. Not going to be much newer than that in Warsaw Pact nations......

I hope that they do bring in more cheap surplus. However I don't think it will happen as American ammo manufacturers would probably pressure Trump to keep American business steady. He's apparently all about America first.

Still I remain hopeful to seas of spam cans and maybe even SVD's and SVT's. the lot!

From what I have read, there are billions of spam can rounds of ammo stored in salt mines in both Russia and the Ukraine. The Russians know the American gun market has been a steady and reliable source of income for decades, when they need it. Same with Mosins, the supply over here is depleted because the pipeline was shut off by Dear Leader but they still apparently have plenty of them stored in the same salt mines. The Russians went kind of overboard after WWII with building up small arms supplies and stashing them. Imagine the money they could make if they were to release Tigers and SVDs, more pristine SKS into the American market. At this point, it's all politics.

                      Thanks Guys,

The last bunch of ammo I got, M67 was 1200 rounds for $580, a crate and some boxes both on strippers. Uly X39 was about $200 for 1K delivered. I still have a bunches X39 that was a dime per round.

The last 440 tins of X54 were $89. I've been out of the Mosin loop for a while, but I stumbled across an SVT40 I'm debating, and thought I better see what the feed cost might be. PAX

I remember getting the Chinese 7.62 x 39 in the early 90's it was about $100 for a wooden crate with two spam cans. The stuff was kind of rough, it was steel cased, steel jacketed all with the same copper wash, some corrosion on the outside, wrapped in a paper bundle with a twine tie. Good blasting ammo for commie guns though.

PK shoots 7.62x54r and is still Russia's machine gun. I bet there are spam cans dated 2017 already.
