It has no collector value anyway, its gone through atleast one rebuild. From the age of the receiver probably been through a couple.


Bobby, is the parkerizing really light grey or is it just from the flash?
If light parkerizing it may be a 1960's rebuild. Pull the action from the stock and see if anything is etched on the right side of receiver legs. CMP does not refinish standard Service Grades

I am a collector, and it has value to me! But yes, I get your meaning. It wouldn't particularly excite the hardcore Garand crowd. Still a compelling value @ $730 and impossible to lose money on it.

The gray finish does appear to be pretty light, lighter than other SG Garands I've seen. I am going to disassemble and give it a good cleaning and grease it with Lubriplate. I will look for any additional markings and post the results.

That's a beauty. My HRA came with new CMP wood, I did a tung-oil finish on it and it's aging well.

he's talking about a manufacturing defect that affected the first 40,000 rifles or so.

material was mistakenly removed from the forward-most guide rib on the left side of magazine well. you should see a triangular section of material that was replaced the first time your rifle got arsenal refurb'd.

Nice looking Garand! Just having a serial number from WWII or before makes them more desirable to some people.

I'm going to guess but the 5 digit is pre WW2. I have a 6 digit and it is pre WW2, 1/41 and it has gone through the rebuild process. I upgraded the bolt because I want to shoot it with some piece of mind.

Yeah that's why I put and before, but they may be even more desirable than WWII numbers to some people. I'd rather have a rebuild than an all original with shot out barrel.
