    Enfield or Mauser?

hey guys looking to add another C&R to the collection before it gets too challenging. I've been wanting an enfield for a while and have always been impressed with them. but I also enjoy mausers... what do I do?????? I've got $200 which wont get a K98 but could still get something fun!

I like Mausers a lot, but I would buy an Enfield if I were you. Find yourself a decent No.4 and you're set. Good surplus .303 is basically non-existent, but Prvi makes good .303 for about $0.50/rd. The Mauser does have the cheaper ammo, but I think the Enfield is worth buying the good ammo for. Of course, I may be biased because I'm a huge fan of bolt guns that cock-on-closing.

The Enfield rifle may be cheaper than a rifle, but .303 British is way more expensive than 8mm. And coming from a Mosin Nagant guy, the Enfield takes a couple of times to disassemble to get used to where things go

Several days later the bolt was rusted shut but I guess the fouling wasnt TOO bad.

I bought some hotshot ammo a few years ago when i had an enfield, and it was okay not the most accurate, but good enough for shooting as i got it for 5 dollars a box. From my experience it is dirty and some of them attract a magnet so depending on where you shoot you may or may not be allowed.

            Hope that helps a little.

Well, you pretty much answered your question when you said that you want to spend $200. Either rifle would be fun. Oh, and if you really want a Mauser, a M24/47 Yugo is below $200, and you can get them in very good to excellent condition, whereas most Germans even close to $200-300 will be Russian capture beaters. I got what looked to be unfired (when I got it, that is) Yugo from Samco Global for $159 plus shipping (and transfer, as I don't have a C&R), the very good condition ones are listed at $129, I believe.

About the same. You'll notice a difference between heavy and light ball just like you do in the Mosins. I've found the Turk and Ecuadorian 8mm pounds my shoulder pretty good. I save that stuff for my kid to shoot.

Nick, those rifles are a great buy, especially the better condition rifles, if I had any gun safe room, I'd pick up another one.

Enfield 2A in .308. The round is going to be here for quite a while... maybe until we have particle weapons. Anyways good luck

I love enfields, but the mausers are easier to find in that price range. Get a Vz-24, a 24/47 or a Yugo M48 or 48A for that price, and still have money for ammo. Any of those in decent shape will give you a lifetime's worth of service.

If you want an accurate shooter, get a Yugo 24/47. Mine, and others I've read about, seem to have nearly new bores. My bolt wasn't as smooth operating as my Enfield or K98, but it got the job done. As others have said, surplus 8mm ammo is much easier to find than .303.

I was wondering roughly about the same thing at Cow Palace last weekend. Mauser vs Enfield Vs Schmidt Rubin. But ended up with Colt Police Positive target instead.
