How long to process a COE?

I got tired of all the bs new laws. I already have my 03 FFL and so I applied last month for my COE. I did the livescan and paid the fee. But I have not heard squat back from the DOJ. Based on your experiences how long does it take for them to process applications? Do they generally acknowledge receipt of applications? Your experiences?

Mine took almost 8 weeks. Live Scan on May 9 and the CoE arrived July 2.

Imagine how slow they'll get if ammo companies accept them for online ammo shipment...

Same here. They cashed my check about 6 weeks back, I haven't yet received my "you've behaved for another year" certificate. I don't mind if the thing shows late, I certainly don't want to do the "LiveScan" all over again because of their lapse.

mine was under 6 weeks but the 03 came sooner than the COE (unsurprisingly)

My COE expires Sunday and I've still received nothing from DOJ. Called their "Firearms" number and got a recording indicating they are backlogged. Sent them an e-mail - no response. My check was been cashed 2 months ago. I don't mind if the thing comes late, I don't have any immediate use plans.

I'm hopeful that the thing being delivered late doesn't mean I have to redo LiveScan. Anyone have a contact telephone number where you can actually talk to a person? I had one years ago, no idea what it is now.

Update - Received COE today, 8/19

My timeline for a new application:
Mail application - 05/24/16
Receive COE - 08/19/16 = 11-1/2 wks = 80 days (coulda gone around the world)

COE Issue date - 08/15/16

Mine took exactly 2 months. No acknowledgment, simply mailing the document and waiting.

My COE expires on 10-12. Received the renewal app on Wenesday (8-17) and mailed the app and $22.00 check yesterday. I guess I'll know they (DOJ) got the letter when the check clears...

Can someone explain to me exactly what a COE would do for me? Also, what rights does the DOJ have if I obtain one?
